eureka eureka:
The way I see it, andy, is that we do not lose by change to sustainable practises but the Third World does benefit. And benefit greatly.Energy is the base of all economic standards and that, when shifted to the renewable choices will be as practical in poor countries as in rich ones. It will be the rising tide that lifts all boats.

The continuation of a carbon based economy will retain the concentration in the developed world.

What we are likely to lose now because of the delay amounts to 1 to 2% of World GDP that would be quickly made up. That is the calculation of the Stern commission. If we wait another few decades it will be 5%. Much longer and it will be complete collapse.

I don't disagree with your figures, Eureka. I just have little hope of doing this on a global scale. Too many barriers including corruption. Maybe if we can reverse the trend on a national scale first, we could use that as a template for global action. But look at the opposition just to national change just on this forum.

What? I've always supported national change. Like I've often said, if Canadians were serious about carbon and AGW then they'd immediately shut down production of coal and oil and they'd keep all that Canadian carbon safely sequestered.

And that's not going to happen because as much as the whiners in Ont. and Quebeck kvetch about oil and coal from Alberta they sure do love the equalization payments that keep their little Utopias running.

That's what this comes to, really. For all the lip service about AGW there's a lot of politicians on the liberal side who won't lift a finger for it if it means cutting revenues and then subsidies for their constituents.
