Hi All,

I was just wondering if anyone else is worried about the service of Canada post?

I'm not sure if many people know this, but Canada post has such a BAD International reputation that some other countries won't even insure items to Canada anymore? I encountered that about a year ago in Australia when I was mailing stuff to Canada and the woman at the Australian post office said they stopped offering insurance to Canada, and she told me that it was basically because they were tired of items continually going missing at the Canadian end, and the fact that Canada post would never return any of their enquiries regarding missing packages!! (so this is Post office to Post office!)

Also, if you look at Ebay - many sellers comment that people buying from Canada do so "at own risk" because of hassels with Canada post and items going missing!!!

I think everyone should be VERY concerned about this! to me this equates to theft.

A few years ago one of my relatives from a City (that I won't mention) kept sending me stuff that either wouldn't get to me - or was damaged and so I complained to that cities head post office and was told that they were not able to monitor that sort of thing - and basically the message was - tough luck!

We pay them money for service they don't seem to deliver! And there doesn't seem to be any way to make them accountable!

What can people do? :(

I've used Canada Post for 35 years without one problem yet. I've bought many things from Ebay and I've yet to see anyone say anything bad about Canada Post. I'm sure they have their problems though.

Canada Post is slow and expensive for the service you receive.

Just the other day I saw a US ebay site that specified problems with Canadian customs AND Canada post! I wish I could remember who it was.

It's the fact that when things DO go wrong - Canada post won't do anything about it! That's the thing that really bothers me! Not only did items sent from that particular town go missing, but some arrived with the top of the envelopes slit open (as if someone checked to see if there was cash in there!) etc etc etc! (smells of theft to me) and it didn't seem like the management there were too worried about it, or prepared to do an internal inquiry.

I just think Canada post should have a more accountable and cooperative attitude!

I do a LOT of posting between Australia and Canada, and generally speaking they've been pretty good (except a few times - especially that one town in Southern Alberta I mentioned). But it concerns me (and should concern everyone else) that places like Australia won't insure to Canada anymore because they've had so many bad dealings with them! I'm not exaggerating when I say Canada post has a bad reputation!

It probably isn't! but might be borderline because people can get very polarized about this stuff, but also because it mentions a specific company.

Sounds like you have a nice post office near you!

I routinely had stuff shipped to Thailand rather than Taiwan when Canada Post was used as a shipper.

A very well known Jewelry company in Vancouver won't send stuff by Canada post anymore because they said that valuable items went missing, and Canada post wouldn't respond to enquiries.

I have to agree. I sent something to Ontario a couple weeks ago. It took 5 days to get there :?

...sucks balls?

1. Postal workers have taken to leaving parcels outside my apartment door, instead of leaving a parcel slip. Yep. I've had them throw a package of DVDs from Amazon.ca out in the hallway, as well as my $200 Sennheisers. I was not impressed.

2. Every postal "outlet" has one employee, regardless of how busy it is. Gotta love monopolies.

3. We've gone through periods where they just stopped delivering mail for a bit.

4. As a test my girlfriend and I walked into our CP outlet and picked up a parcel we knew was there, providing our name only. No slip, no ID. Handed it right over to us.

This is over the span of the last 3 weeks.

You've never used the Royal Mail in the UK. I will never again complain about Canada Post after all the crap and hassles I've had to deal with the Royal Mail. The service here is so bad that I tell people not to bother sending me stuff.

For years I have regularly sent and received Christmas presents with a friend in Atlanta. This past year we wanted to see who’s service was better so we mailed these on the same day and 7 days later we received them on the same day. I’m not sure if 7 days is to long but have never had problems with CP.

My friend and I did this as well a couple of months ago. We mailed parcels on the same day, using the same air mail services (though hers with Canada Post and mine with Royal Mail) and I received hers a full week before she received mine.

I've had two parcels go missing with Royal Mail, I never get a delivery notice, no matter how many times I phone to complain, plus they keep going on strikes because they say they're not being paid enough, when postal workers over here get paid at least £5,000 more than me and I'm a freaking government employee!

I have often thought that "Canada Post Service" was an oxymoron.

It seems to me they are offering less and less. The service they have added to be "more up to date" pales to the service no longer offered. For example any new homes get "delivery stations" instead of delivery to the door.

If those of you are not aware of these, they are lighted huts within five to ten blocks or your house. These are used as target for vandalism and for your local dealer to have a spot out of the weather to sell to your kids. Oh but according to CP the price of postage hardly covers getting service out to rural areas and northern communities.

I'm not sure I should say the name (don't want to be sued by anyone) - but its a VERY well known diamond company with stores all across Canada. You go in and pick the settings and diamonds separately (hint hint).
