EyeBrock EyeBrock:
You can get adaptors for FD lenses but manual focus only.
I'd either go Nikon (boo hiss) or Canon for the best image quality, features and lens range. The others just are not in the same league as the big two, in my opinion anyway. I moved from minolta film to canon.

Minolta was my first camera when I was a kid...still have that old beauty
I have to agree I think I will stick with the Canon...im not a fan of Nikon

Sometimes a course might be too much info, experiment with the modes and let technology do the dirty work for you,the shutter speeds and all that will come to you when you start taking night pics.

Shutter speed matters all of the time, not just at night. It depends entirely on the scene and effect you want to have in your photo.

TattoodGirl TattoodGirl:
I have only ever used an SLR...I will look into that, I also want to see if my Canon lenses will interchange.

I'm not sure if Canon 35mm lenses will work on DSLR, but I do know that you have to do a little bit of extra fiddling with cameras that will let you do that because the auto-focus on DSLR cameras obviously doesn't work with 35mm lenses, and they slightly increase the focal length of the lense, so you might get some barrel distortion.

$1:
I have very nice equipment and wouldnt want to see it go to waste. I will still use my old SLR for speciality shots, like using it with infrared film etc.

I don't think I ever really want to give up my 35mm SLR cameras (I have two: a Minolta SRT-202, and a Ricoh KR-05). Instead, I want to get something that's somewhere between an SLR and instamatic so that I can take spontaneous photos without giving up too much control of what my camera is doing.

Eisensapper Eisensapper:
I picked up a book by Michael Guncheon, all about the features of the XSi, hopefully this will cut down my trial and error time.

Trial and error is kind of what SLR photography is all about...

That was actually suggested to me as well. Not to give up everything, but to have it for the quick shots. so its definitely an option as well.
