I doubt anyone could argue with the following statement; "the site has been a bit bitey lately." Between one or two trolls, a lot of harsh feelings and some spill over to other people, it's easy to say that discussions seem to be a bite more on edge, even with the expulsion of one or two of the more unfortunate trouble makers during this time.
Unfortunately, it's also hard to miss the names which have slowly begun to disappear from the various forums of the site, even those who did not post often before, or those who stuck mostly to the Filibusters subforum. I noticed the other day when I was going through my post history and noticed more than a few people suddenly reduced their rate of posting over the last few months, and I was definitely among them.
Save for the past few days, my last 15 posts would go back all the way to November, and my last thirty pretty much back to July. I'm hardly a central part of the site, but I do stand as an example of someone who got bored of the overall tone and degree of animosity. Unfortunately, it seems I am not the only one, as folks like Unsound and Psudo have posted similar comments, among others.
To be on a political site, there does need to be a level of thick skin, but there also needs to be a level of actual discussion for people to remain. I think we are watching it return, but I think we must encourage it as well, and tone down some of our more eccentric ideals until the site reorients itself again.

Among each other, there does need to be some decorum of respect, some restraint and some effort put into what is said, in my mind. Otherwise, all we get is polarized discussion, partisanship, anger and long running resentment, and I don't like that. It makes my tummy all icky.
I know I have very little respect on this site and I am relatively obscure, but I still would like to make this plea so that we don't lose out on keeping CKA the best non-partisan site for Canadian discussion on the net.

I doubt it will happen in entirety, and I recognize among the trolls and partisans lie people who simply don't agree (vehemently) as well, but it can't hurt to ask, can it?
Just my opinion, anyways.

And if anyone disagrees I am TOTALLY calling them a homophobe.
