Hello, I live in Virginia, am conservative politically, believe strongly in the greatness of the US Constitution, and love my country. So you know where I stand. I like Canada and have met some nice Canadians. Since we have had a peaceful coexistence for a couple hundred years, I can't imagine a better neighbor. Nevertheless, most recently, I feel that some Canadians or rather the dominant message from Canada is that you don't like us. I realize that the minority voice many times gets the media's eye. It is a bit disappointing to hear the criticism of our country.

Are we perfect, certainly not. But I think our way of life has served us well so far. I don't think anything could garner us more disrespect then to change who and what we are, regardless of how many seem to say the opposite.

On a personal note, I love Datsun Z cars and my favorite color is green.

Welcome to the site American!

I also recognise the profound brilliance of the US constitution and the Declaration of Independance (one of the finest things ever written by the hand of man).

Look forward to hearing you thoughts!

Anyone who likes Datsun Zed cars can't be all bad. Welcome to the site!

A lot of Canadians hate Bush and make sweeping generalisations about America as a result. It's unfortunate...

Thanks, I appreciate that. I also appreciate Streaker's last statement. I've seen this and don't understand it.

Welcome American... Streaker's right. I've actually not met an American I didn't like (thought most of them are from New England, which is pretty much the same place as the Maritime provinces). Some people just complain about the Big Bad America to get attention, it seems, but I have no problems with its people.

Thanks. You know calling Bush stupid is a lot of rhetoric. He's not stupid, not with an MBA from Harvard School of Business.

I think most people, not just Canadians, share the same opinion of President Bush (IE. being stupid) simply based on his choices while in office (the war) and the statements he makes (a.k.a. Bushisms).

Is it right to hate all Americans because of the opinion of one man? No. Make no mistake though, Canadians feel the same treatment in return. We grow up learning about Canadian and US history. Do Americans learn about Canadian history? No.

I am a proud Canadian. I served in the military for 6 years right out of highschool. I also know and deal with Americans on a daily basis through work and when it comes right down to it Americans and Canadians are very much alike.

It's the political dealings that generate dislike between the two countries. If only we could leave those dealings to the politicians. Unfortunately, being the great countries that we are, we as citizens take the political dealings personally.

Siblings squabble and call each other names all the time, sometimes really nasty and hurtful things. But when things get tough family pulls together. This is our relationship. Welcome to the the asylum, inmates receive their meds at 4:20 daily.

Many presidents have made those choices. It is way too early to know whether it was wise or not. Only history will finally judge this. Many opposed FDR in going to war in WWII. Many said Germany could not be rebuilt and made a democratic country.

American...

Don't get me wrong. I'm not judging the war decision although it certainly is sad to see soldiers dying for what may be a 'lost cause'. He made his decision, for whatever reason, and now he has to not only live with it but see it through. Hopefully there is an end to that war someday.

I like the analogy of siblings fighting. That's exactly what we are. Unfortunately I think we know more about our neighbor to the south than they know about us. This translates as arrogance from the US that they don't care about anyone but themselves. I'm not endorsing that sentiment, but it is apparent at times.

I hope someday we can evolve into a better relationship that can benefit both countries.

Don't feel bad, lots of kids don't even know American history these days. Thanks to liberal educational policy. It's less important to understand the Constitution and more important to know that George Washington was a rich slave owner.

Do not countenance any right wing rhetoric you may encounter here.
Return fire with both barrels.

Oh and the left wing wombats too.
Uncle Joe did not appreciate them either.
