The origin of the name "Canada" comes from the expedition of explorer Jacques Cartier up the St. Lawrence River in 1535. The Iroquois pointing out the route to the village of Stadacona, the future site of Quebec City, used the word "kanata," the Huron-Iroquois word for village. Jacques Cartier used the word Canada to refer to both the settlement of Stadacona and the land surrounding it subject to Chief Donnacona.

I came to this site attracted by the soi-disant rules that are posted. Ignore them - they are not enforced. This is not the civilized forum I sought with the exception of about a half-dozen posters:

HaRDY posts rarely but when he does it is well thought and presented.

. When the other posts make you despair for humanity, look to hers to remember people are not all vile.

Oh if you are of a minority group - HIDE IT. Thre is a lot of hate on this site.
