The Swedish Armed Forces are calling for more military resources inside the country following a revision of its stance on Russia.

Major General Michael Moore however warns against perceiving the news as "alarming", stressing that the military does not regard the level of threat to have dramatically increased.

"We are seeing the crystallisation of a changed strategic situation in northern Europe. This is partly due to pressure created by economic advances in China and India, which are demanding more and more energy," Moore told newspaper Dagens Nyheter.

The growing importance of energy, Russia's renewed economic power, and the growth of Baltic trade have all contributed to altering the overall picture, according to Moore.

Colonel Stefan Gustafsson, head of the Armed Forces' strategic analysis unit, agrees that the situation in Russia has changed.

"The country has the financial capacity to invest more in defence. That is not to say that Sweden is at risk of attack.

"Such threats emerge from a combination of resources and intentions. And we do not predict any such intentions in the foreseeable future," he said.

The Swedish Defence Commission will meet on Wednesday to discuss the issue of national security. These discussions will form an important basis for a parliamentary resolution on national defence later this spring.

The Swedish Armed forces have previously prioritised international engagements.

Mulroney was scum.

Capitalism is a system that'll eat itself if it doesn't eat others....is it the perfect system??....no. So why do we have to be slaves to it? Does it mean that we have to trash our own system for another model. Canada needs to be repaired but which country doesn't? Are there any other systems around the world that work? Why does our gov't take insist on making us dependants on one country??

I like money.... but it doesn't mean I have to be a slave to it and prick to get it. (eg Bomb a bunch of uneducated plebs on the otherside of the world for it)

As long as their are a handful of capitalists, capitalism will unfortunately thrive. In addition, as time will pass, and as governments turn more right-winged, capitalism will eat everyone below itself.
So which system works? The answer is clear - socialism.

Sweden is a prime example of that. Sure, their tax rate is huge, butno one is left behind.

Stellar.

I don't know what the Sweedes are worried about. If the Russians try anything, they'll have to go through Finland first and that didn't work out so well last time.

Sweden cannot be plainly labelled a "capitalist" nation. Really, Sweden is known to be a country that has set a healthy midway point between a socialist and capitalism system. In my opinion however, after doing research into Sweden's politics and their society as a whole, it is safe to say that Sweden does in fact have more socialist characteristics than that of capitalism.

Stellar.
