The soviets payed more of a price inwwII and did more for the world then us. Civil war was a domestic issue. And no we lost in Vietnam , hence it is still communist. We have never won a conventional war going it alone, as we will find out in Iraq once more.

The conventional war in Iraq is over. We creamed Saddam's forces. What you're seeing now is unconventional. It's kinda pointless to downgrade the mightiest military the world has ever seen- lots of people can be in denial about it, which is fine, but the bottom line is that we keep lots of things in check with our military.
