I think it's highly coincidental that 90% of retailers, or higher, have deleted all references to Christmas and inserted 'holidays' in its place.

Three or four years ago it would have been 90% Christmas.
If it's not co-ordinated it certainly seems that way. I don't even see the point.

Call it what it is!

A very Merry Christmas to all of ya, even silly old streaker!

I'll call bullshit on that one.

Fine. Prove that people are being forced to use "Happy Holidays".

My sister, who retired after many years working at 'The Bay' brought home a written directive 'to all employees' that they were no longer to wish customers a 'Merry Christmas, rather they would indeed wish customers 'Happy Holidays'. Go check it out for yourself. Not just at the Bay, but at a few other stores, and if they wish you a 'Happy Holiday' ask them why they didn't wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS,sTREAKER! This greatly upset her as of all the people I know she IS Mrs. Christmas'.

Fair enough, but was the Bay obliged to adopt "Happy Holidays"?

Of course not, but the company bigshots made their decision for business reasons. No big woop.

All retail jobs I have worked have told us we can't wish customers merry Christmas. Though I did it anyways. There is that proof enough?

That doesn't prove anything. Your employer simply made a sound business decision.

I remember that BRIEF period that a guy named Paul Martin was PM, he was with his wife shopping with a throng of reporters hovering, he picked up a wreath, a reported yelled out "Mr Martin is that a Christmas wreath or a holiday wreath" typical of Martin, 30 second awkward silence, he put on his phony smile, guffawed, giggled, uhhhhhhhhh "it's a Holiday wreath" he blurts out

Wally world explains why they dont use the word christmas.

$1:
The League says the woman received an e-mail response from a customer-service representative, reading exactly as follows:

Walmart is a world wide organization and must remain conscious of this. The majority of the world still has different practices other than "christmas" which is an ancient tradition that has its roots in Siberian shamanism. The colors associated with "christmas" red and white are actually a representation of of the aminita mascera mushroom. Santa is also borrowed from the Caucuses, mistletoe from the Celts, yule log from the Goths, the time from the Visigoth and the tree from the worship of Baal. It is a wide wide world.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue speculated the writer of that e-mail was perhaps drunk, so he sent the response to Dan Fogleman in Wal-Mart's public-relations department.

Fogleman confirmed the original note was written by a Wal-Mart representative, and he continued:

As a retailer, we recognize some of our customers may be shopping for Chanukah or Kwanzaa gifts during this time of year and we certainly want these customers in our stores and to feel welcome, just as we do those buying for Christmas. As an employer, we recognize the significance of the Christmas holiday among our family of associates ... and close our stores in observance, the only day during the year that we are closed.
"It's nice to know that Wal-Mart is closed on a federal holiday," explains Donohue, who says he's asking the leaders of 126 religious organizations spanning seven religious communities to boycott the retail giant.

He points out, and WND confirmed, that when using the company's online search engine, if the word "Hanukkah" is entered, 200 items for sale are returned. The term "Kwanzaa" yields 77. But when "Christmas" is entered, the message returned says: "We've brought you to our 'Holiday' page based on your search."

How about "Happy Birthday, Jesus!"

The biggest kick I got over this whole thing was when I played "O Holy Night" at a "Snowflake Festivasl" party at a place I used to work. One person--the venet organizer--complained. This was a solo piano arrangement, so there were no words. Apparently even the music alone for this beautiful piece were deemed offensive.

Anyways, I lied and said the music was actually composed by Franz Liszt (false), a notorious libertine (true) and occultist (false), and if anything, the music, without the words, was an Ode to Satan, adn that, if we were to be truly representative of all faiths then we should play one for the Satanists. I was allowed to finish my set in peace while she tried to wrap her tiny brain around that one.

Streaker Streaker:

That doesn't prove anything. Your employer simply made a sound business decision.

Alienate the many, in order to appease the few.

Yup. Definitely sounds like a good business decision to me!!!

Why would "Happy Holidays" be alienating?

How is that a sound business decision? Its BS IMO. You don't see Jews, Muslims or whomever afraid to use the proper terms when referring to their holidays. Why should Christains be any different?

That isn't an explanation of why you find this term alienating. Again, what is it about "Happy Holidays" that makes you feel excluded?

Because its being done to make sure people aren't offended who don't celbrat Christmas. But that same logic isn't applied to anyone else. It seems just Christmas for some reason.
