Heres a friend of mine to shed some light...

We bitched and complained to be free from the empirical rule of Britian. In short we are Canadian becuase we have molded an image for our country. Our former ties with Britian were cut of long ago and we are our own people. You my friend, are a tard.

On second note, Royalism is absurd. You basicly believe in a stupid notion that one person should run a country. First, the Queen runs shit. There are people behind the senial old woman who actually governs there country. All she does is sign documents and eat crumpits. She is purely a mascot. Secondly, why would anyone want a royalist nation. A country where the people can speak up, and the Parliament can answer is truely superior. You lose.
----------------------------------------------------------

Well then, I should do that more often. He is correct. We are not British. We are Canadian. We have our own Culture. We have our laws, government, society. It may have derived Britain, but we have veered off in a different direction. We should no longer be connected to Britain through the Governor General. We are our own country, and thinking that we are almost like sub-Brits, you are no better then a Separatist.

Anti-British rambling that didn't really answer anything. I asked to tell me what a Canadian is you didn't really explain it at all. So again tell me what a Canadian is not just what you think or your friend thinks what it is not.

2. We as an independant nation have our own beliefs and rights. We have our own Charter of rights and freedoms. We as an independant nation have moved away from Britain.

3. The Statute of Westminster gave us independance from Britain.

4. TIMMIES!!!!

You can't just ask "What is a Canadian." No more then you can ask what a Brit is, or an American. So...What is a Brit? Hmm?

British Culture
Maybe this will help you? My point about Canada or English-Canada is it is not really that different from the UK. Your parents are different from you but you are still the same family regardless aren’t you? The United Kingdom is like our family. She raised us, taught us things, and helped us become who we are. Sure we have developed our own traits but does that mean we are not the same family anymore? Would you disown your own family or parents and tell them you don’t want to be part of them anymore, change your surname and cut them off? It sounds rather silly and pointless but that is how you sound like to me. Sure let us be Canadian but lets not forget who are and where we came from.

British Culture is Canada and it's always put down BUT french culture is always raised above anything in Canada.

The British Culture founded this country, that’s an undisputable fact. french culture has given us grief from day one, who needs that?

Actually, the French were here first and set up Canada. Then the British came and kicked some French ass. Get your facts straight...

Wait, to be politically correct, the Native Americans were here first...

Do you have Canadian Citizenship?
The language you speak is English. It is spoken all over the world, and can no long be said it is from England. All languages are different. So unless you actually use the British slang, you are speaking English. The food.... Our food is universal. We have everything here. The laws are Canadian laws. They are passed by Canadian governments. They have no connection to Britain other then the GG.

I said most laws came from England (We didn't invent all of ours). Yes we pass our own laws now. But where do you think we got the idea of a parliament from? Yes I was born here so get Canadian citizenship but even then that was only created in 1947. English still came from England you don't speak Canadian do you? We didn’t invent this language it was brought here. For most part of this continents history and even Canada the difference between British peoples and "Canadian" wasn't much and to me still isn’t a lot. I just went to England it didn’t really seem foreign at all. Yes we have some differences but they are minor compared to the similarities. So that’s why I will call myself an English-Canadian for I can’t whole heartedly say I’m just a Canadian for there really isn’t such a thing or I can’t say I’m English for I don’t live there. Perhaps I’m both a combination of the two.

so you have a right to ask for second nations person status XD

Damn boy you don't even know what you are. + You always seem to add another culture to every post. I guess it all depends what thread you are posting in and just make up you're 1/100000000 part of it.

Also the french did not setup Canada if they did trust me you'd be speaking french.

That is your right of course, sad but it is your right. Then again, it's others' right to consider themselves Canadian and not anything else. As a historian, I very well know what contributions the British did for this country and I can also acknowledge the contributions of others unlike other people.

As Mario said, you are missing the point. Nobody is telling you to forget or give up who you are but rather people should consider themselves Canadians first and always. If you choose not to, fine, the freedoms this country provides is vast.

Having said that, I could care less about the British or what they do. My focus is primarily concerned with this country, not whining about people who don't want anything to do with the British and instead focus on being Canadian.

I ahve always said that I have heritage in the aforementioned cultures and nations. I don't always list them. For example, in my blog recently, I simply referred to myself as a Latino for all intents and purposes, instead of a Quebecois-Ecuadorian-Jamaican-Spanish-yada-yada-yada. It is far easier for me to identify myself as a Latino, since my name and skin colour would betray that information.

BTW, I found out not too long ago that we had some Italian relatives and even a Croatian or two, but they are so far back and miniscule that I hardly ever list them, except in a competition to see who is the most multicultural. I almost always win.

jazzman jazzman:
Why do you disagree with it SheperdsDog, and I had no idea that Sir John Alexander MacDonald was born in Scotland, although the surname should have been a little clue.

9 of Canada's Prime Ministers were born and from Scotland.

In fact, the Scots say Canada is their second chance country. It's ironic given that right now they're in the throes of independence issues and wondering whether or not they can sustain themselves, when really...Canada owes a huge part of its reputation and way of thinking to those gallant Scots ;)
