They call what the Canadian women's hockey team is doing sport? I realise that it is a total goals tournament, but 12-0 against Russia and humuliating the home team 16-0 was an absolute disgrace. Does this team realy think they need to run the score board to make it to the finals? Every player and coach on this so caled "team" ought to be totally and completely ashamed of themselve. I know I am disgusted with them. Never thought I would say this but I hope they get their butts kicked.

So you think they should just skate around and do figure eights so as not to embarrass the other team? I don't believe the US basketball team ever held back from one of thier oponents.

I'd rather get beat 12-0 by a team that's playing their best then 6-0 by a team just fooling around with the puck. The Canadian girls team is ranked number one in the world for a reason.....these other teams know it too. They use it as a learning experience. They're playing for home ice advantage in the gold medal game....and against the Americans that means a lot. They should hold their heads high as far as I'm concerned.

I think they are lucky we didn't get more then that  After the first 6 or so goals I think they just started having fun. We were using our fourth string in one gae....thats hardly trying to beat them.

Maybe next time the our Canadian women can play without skates on. Perhaps the score will only be 8-0 then. :D

It's because the organizers of the tournament were stoopid and made up the dumb rule that goal difference determines home ice advantage in the final which is a huge advantage. So Canada is taking no chances and running up the score to have more goals than the Americans. If the organizers were smart, they would have made home ice in the final determined by coin toss. Then they would have avoided this problem and Canada would be nice and not run up the score.

Remember, back in the early winter games or the 20s and 30s, Canada used to win 40-0 in men's hockey and look where the sport is now [flag]

Shame on you for wishing something like that for our womans team. The home team should have put a better team out there to represent their country. Anyone with Italian heritage can play for the Italian team. I am sure that they could have found some decent players if they had tried. The only people who should be ashamed is the Italian team and their management for putting together such a pathetic roster and effort. Oh and you for saying such a stupid thing. Perhaps it would better for you if they just laid down on the ice and let the Italians score a bunch of goals. Then we could all feel warm and fuzzy and Canadian inside. Fuck that noise, assclown! If you ain't got the game, you must walk the walk of shame.
PS. The points accumulated are what decides tie-breakers in Olympic Hockey, so holding back to keep someones feeling from being hurt is foolish.

The Italians went in to that game with the goal of holding the Canadians to 20 points or less...

I know there must be some fine Italian hockey players they could have sent against the Juggernaut Canadians. I mean right around this area (London) there are at least 4 or 5 good Italian players on the OHL teams. Frankly, I don't mind that the girls are racking up the scoreboard; they're just trying to play the game to it's fullest. If the rules didn't state that the most goals in the tournament determined home ice advantage, I still think they'd have been running up the score, as they should be. Hockey is something that defines Canada, it defines all of us as Canadians, and we should be proud, not ashamed when our teams put the beat down on lesser countries in the sport.

These girls arent just good, they play with heart and it's allways good hockey.

They must have the luckie loonie imbedded in the ice somewhere.

Blame the rules for the lop sided scores. You know they wouldn't do it if they didn't need to.

Exactly. Maybe there should be some sort of standand for this team sport like there is in other individual sports? I don't think you can do that though.

But wouldn't that narrow the tournament down to us, the US, the Russians and maybe a couple of Scandanavian countries?

That hardly seems like a good event.

Maybe the Canadian Girls should just be defaulted into the Gold Medal game...

True. You'd think they would use more players who have duel citizenship then... But it's pretty damn boring watching the Canadian women play teams that are like Bantam or Midget girls teams.
