Hamilton has been trying for ever to have its own NHL team. If I remember well, the Copps Coliseum was built in the mid 80ies with an NHL team in mind.

The market is certainly large enough to sustain a team if it's located in Hamilton, but the Leafs and the Sabres can veto any attempt to move there.
The other scenario is Kitchener. No Leafs or Sabres veto, but if Balsillie is seriously thinking of moving the team to Kitchener he better do some meticulous market research first.

If he does acquire the team and does decide to move it, the other possibility would be Kansas City. They built a whole new arena there in hopes of attaining a professional sports team, but have not done so of yet.
I guess the Canadian possibilities would be either in Ontario, but I don't know if Toronto would ever happen. Winnipeg's rink probably wouldn't be able to support an NHL team anymore, and have proven that they failed in the past. I doubt Quebec would take another team as well.
This could be interesting.

I think it will stay in Nashville as moving costs more money.
If he decides to move it to Canada(albeit unlikely), it would probably be in one of the following places:
Hamilton
Kitchener
London
Winnipeg
And maybe Quebec City or Halifax.

I would LOVE to see a team in Quebec City, but that won't happen until we get a new arena, and we won't be getting a new arena until we see a major change in the mentality of the mayorship. They're pretty much all the same right now : very conservative, take-no-risk, meticulous accountants.
A team in Quebec City would not be impossible in a decade or two if the salary cap stops rising, but it seems the hockey world is too moronic to understand the players are paid enough already and will keep on letting down its most devout followers just to obtain a shower of millions from rich american cities where nobody gives a damn about hockey.
I won't be at peace with the NHL until there are at least 10 Canadian hockey teams, including two in Quebec City and Winnipeg. I don't know about the Jets, but the Nordiques constantly drew full houses even after having 4 straight seasons in the basement of the league, so there's definitely no fanbase problem. Plus the Habs/Nords rivalry was easily among the three best rivalries of all time in hockey.
Both us and Winnipeg just need an arena...

Regina Regina:
The sad truth is that Maple Leaf Sports doesn't need an NHL team to still make money. I guess Harold Ballard was right when he said he'd sell out the Gardens every night even with no Hockey. To bad for Leaf fans though, if they needed the revenue from the Maple Leafs, they might actually get a hockey team.

Winter pig has a new arena, it seats about 15,000 I believe.

Oh I was under the impression it was capable of NHL requirements with a few upgrades that were designed into the building. Just when you think a city got it right...poof reality check

Exactly. It's fine for a AHL team, but not enough capacity for what they need for an NHL team.

Sounds like the Waterloo area is a good bet within a few years..........if it's going to Canada. Like Canuker said KC has a nice new rink ready to rock and roll though.
