twister twister:
Streaker Streaker:
Shots on goal was, what - 49 to 18? Canada didn't play badly but they were up against a hot goalie.

yes Gerber was Hot.. but it was a Solid team effort in front of him. Very few rebounds out.... pucks got through were stopped and covered or sent to the boards.
Looks like they took a page out of the Jaques Lemaire coaching manual.

That's funny, we were commenting at work today, packed the spare TV down to the Napa store to watch the game while working, that the Swiss coach must have worked with Lamaire at some point or another.

Man, we should NEVER lose to Switzerland!

EVER!

It was a game of hockey and anything can happen. This time around, the better team won. Good for the Swiss. This was a wakeup call for our guys!

About the middle of the first period, I had a feeling Gerber was going to be good today. He reminded me of the way Hasek played in Nagano.

I'd just like to go on record that

when Canada loses a hockey game

or at least the men's national team

it's a

DISASTER!

I didn't sleep for two nights when the US won the 1996 World Cup.

QBC QBC:
Holy Crap, The Swiss are Giant Killers!!!!!!

First the Czechoslovakia now Canada. Gerber could have been on the ice by himself and the Swiss still would have won. Waytago Swiss!!!

Actually they needed a Canadian to score the goals for them or it would have been a 0-0 tie.

Swiss shock Canadian men 2-0
$1:
Former Montreal Canadiens forward Paul DiPietro scored two goals and goalie Martin Gerber of the Carolina Hurricanes played superbly, making 49 saves for the shutout.

DiPietro, born in Sault Saint Marie, Ont., played 192 NHL games with Montreal, Toronto and Los Angeles. He scored 31 goals and 49 assists during his career that was highlighted by a Stanley Cup championship with the Canadiens in 1993.

$1:
TURIN, Italy (AP) -- The greatest Olympic upset in Swiss hockey history stood for all of two days. This was bigger, better, more impossible still.

Beat Canada? How could they? Some of Switzerland's players felt it couldn't happen and, after it did, they were at a loss to explain.

Shocker.

Just a little surprised that a guy who hasn't been in the NHL for so long would turn out to be such a factor in this game, although Gerber played a key role too...

I'm issuing a fatwa calling for the heads of Gerber and DiPietro. Gerber for shutting out Canada even though we had 49 shots on net and DiPietro for being a traitorous Canadian and scoring the 2 goals. It's blasphemy I say!

Just kidding guys. Good game.
