Check out the video and make sure to watch the slow-mo replay near the end. Worse than Bertuzzi's sucker punch on Moore? I think so, it's all about intent. Let's see what he gets...

Simon's swings at Hollweg

Methinks Chris will be in line for an extended holiday! 8O

Not defending the actions of Chris Simon, but the hit looked like a hit from behind.

Saw the hightlight last night...........what a dumb ass. With all the press about head shots lately, you'd think he'd know better.........guess not. I bet he goes for a good long vacation.

It's almost the opposite of the Bertuzzi incident, really.

Bertuzzi's punch appeared relatively harmless, but inflicted a ton of harm.

Simon's attack looks pretty vicious, but Hollweg is going to fine.

Interesting to see how this will affect the punishment.

I look at it this way, is premeditated worse than heat of the moment, I think so. Can you believe that color guy ? It took him 3 replays to see how high the hit was. How can he even have an opinion on the hit from behind to Simon. I’m sure Chris would have had a penalty called on him if he had thrown it. What he did was dumb and now he has to live with it.

Ever played hockey? When you can read the players name on the back of a jersey it is hitting from behind. A suspension for Simon, yes by all means. But Hollweg is fine, he even continued the game after the "vicious stickwork". I think if Chris Simon truly intended to injure Hollweg the slash/highstick would have been much worse.

The NHL never ever penalizes the act harshly but always over reacts on the extent of the injury.

Simon will get 10-15 games for the slash ..thats it but because Hollweg is walking and talking ...nothing more. I would say this is worse than the bertuzzi hit as the force from that slash could have done some serious injury to Hollweg. Very Similay to the Marty McSorley hit on Donald brashear. Different intent McSorley was trying to get Donald to fight him. Simon was pissed off the Holleweg hit him. And McSorley got him from behind.. that was a two handed chop (baseball bat style) to the throat from the front.

Personnaly I think he's should be done for the year ( No playoff either) and 15 games into next year. 30+ game suspension.. but the league will go softer than that because as I said they penailize the result of action and not the act itself.

Bertuzzi was penalized for the punch, the trip, the landing on the player , the 5 pile player dogpile and the 35 foot slide on Moores face.
\
Hollweg not dead or seriously injured Simon will get a lesser penalty.

Looks like Simon has been suspended indefinitely without pay until his hearing with the league - I say he's gone for the year.

Good for the league if they suspend him for the rest of the year..

Simon suspended

Agreed. Like some of the NYR players were saying yesterday, this is a lot like McSorely's hit on Brashear than anything else.

If they haven't already, the league should tell Simon to get lost until October.
