Dragom Dragom: Everything would be dandy in moderation. Having a opium laced cookie for an actual headache, enjoying a casual joint after dinner on Sunday, One cup of coffee in the morning, Two beers after work on Friday, One cigarette in the evening.
It would be great, but humans don't do that.
Actually, many do. But we had an example of how caffeine can be abused with Yogi and his 10 cups in the morning plus cans of pop and whatever in the day. Some people die from water intoxication.

andyt andyt: Heroin is a very safe drug if used in correct dosage, but it's easy to get the dose wrong, especially with street heroin. Alcohol is more forgiving. Alcohol has regulation to thank for that though. The black market creates things like Superjuice. Leaders brew up law to fight super juice$1: Young aboriginal leaders are floating a request for a provincial law based on racial profiling in a bid to stem suicide and violence fuelled by home brew in their communities. It's a request that has appalled human rights advocates, who predict the law will never pass.

It's called 'physical tolerance'! I happen to have a very high tolerance to all drugs and did have for alcohol as well. Some folks can drink 10 beers and 'function quite well' whilst others are shitfaced after only 2 beers.

Tolerance is only bad if your trying to get wasted.
And the fact that theres no point in it for you, if you don't get wasted, is the point.

And the fact that theres no point in it for you, if you don't get wasted, is the point. I don't toke just to see my breath... Decaffeinated coffee, Non-alcoholic beer... Tobaccoless cigs? That's one of the downsides of pot vs ETOH or tobacco. People do use those drugs just for the pleasure of ingesting them, not necessarily to get high. I remember the taste of a good cigar, sometimes I still want one but know I would not enjoy it. Same with booze, it tastes good. Drinking it just to get pissed is kinda sad once you grow up.

From te article "Experts said alcohol scored so high because it is so widely used and has devastating consequences not only for drinkers but for those around them."
As far as the devastating consequences, those apply to every addictive substance (and some addictive behhaiours as well sex/shopping ect), the accepted world wide use of alcohol pretty much would inevitably lead any study to conclude the same thing.

I'm curious how "Butane" made the list. And how Ecstasy, LSD, and Mushrooms scored lower.

Curtman Curtman: I'm curious how "Butane" made the list. And how Ecstasy, LSD, and Mushrooms scored lower. Because it's more available, we are fighting with drugs, smoking and fast food, without paying attention for things that are killing us more.
