Just thinking.... I have a clear plastic bag that got shipped with a book I bought. Do you think it would be recyclable? I generally assume if it doesnt have the recycle symbol its not recyclable.

I'm going to guess yes. I always throw them into the recycling bin, so if they're not recyclable maybe the plastic island in the Pacific got a little bigger because I don't know where they go.

You really need to check with your municipalityas it varies even within the GTA. Your municipality hey will have a waste website specially for this.

Nope. In BC you can't recycle clear or coloured plastic bags, green and clear garbage bags, shopping bags and old bags living down the street because they gum up the shredder blades.

We also can't recycle metal or glass because a previous administration signed an agreement with a recycler who apparently only wanted the easy to recycle crap.

But on the plus side the Mayor of Victoria has lost her collective hippie mind and is now planning on banning single use paper cups because they might end up in the landfill instead of being recycled.

You must eat a portion to determine it's recyclibility. If you choke on it, its not recyclable.

I throw my plastics straight into the Pacific Ocean. It saves the effort of shipping them to China so they can throw them into the Pacific Ocean.

Oooo.. Smart thinking. I like to place the plastic rings around the baby bird's beaks and on the turtles too. This way I know they're on properly. I also fill by bird feeders with plastic pellets. #doingmypart

If you cut the rings apart, you can use them like a ring toss for those nasty Canada Geese.

It isn't just me that throws plastic bags in the recycling bin.

Near as I can figure pretty much everybody does it.

If they don't want you to they should say so.

Why can they recycle plastic bottles if they can't recycle plastic bags then?

It’s not that used plastic bags, wraps and film can’t be recycled into new materials – they simply require a different collection system and processing equipment than many curbside recycling programs provide... so your municipality will tell you if they accept them or not.

If not, a lot of big chain grocery (and other) stores have collection bins for them.

Not where I live.

But we do have TV commercials of an angry juice box telling us to recycle our drink containers.
