Yogi Yogi:
To which I queried 'Medical Marijuana'. The Dr. I spoke with today admitted that she knew very little about it and suggested that I research the possibility. So I am looking for your experiences with weed use as an alternative to traditional 'chemical drugs'.

I suggest you try edibles first if you're going to. You'll notice less of an intoxicated feeling, it will allow you to go longer between doses, and its much more discrete eating a brownie than pulling out the vapourizer.

It doesn't work for some people though, and I generally find the most effective is straight out of the oven. The heat activates the cannabinoids, and they begin deteriorating into CBN at that point. You can't make brownies, freeze them and expect it to work a month later.

After submitting a recent ultrasound and waiting 2 weeks, I was once again turned down by the folks at False Creek. Did however get a referral to another Dr. in Calgary. In the meantime, I get to hurry up and wait.

Canada has such a wonderful health care system doesn't it  Could you afford to travel and get it done elsewhere?

^ That's not one of the words that comes to my mind! Conference call with a few peeps from my 'insurance co.' yesterday. Was told that I may have to "learn to live with it", and "2 years after your last surgery we will assess your losses. Both physical & financial. In the mean time, you qualify for homecare if you want it." I kinda balked at that idea as I am quite capable of doing my own cooking & cleaning ( the thought of hiring a Hooters Girl crosed my mind),so they finally came up with the idea of upgrading my puter skills and allowing me to "stay around my neighborhood and help out some of the seniors. Installing grab-bars etc. as that doesn't involve lifting anymore than 21 lb.
Hey Caleb, you're a Dr.!! Right??

"They' have actually agreed to send my sorry ass anywhere that I/we can find a Dr. who is willing to perform the necessary surgery.
So, if this latest Calgary Dr. - Dr. David Ablett- I can't find anything on him- can't won't see me, then my surgeon is going to make the formal referal to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. Have also found a Dr./clinic in Vegas who specializes in what ails me.

It's not the system - it's willing to help him. It's the Doctors who are not.

And why aren't they? Not for some nefarious reason, but because it seems Yogi's case is too complicated for them. In a small country like Canada, we may not have that expertise. If Yogi lived in Omaha, say, he might have to travel to have his case looked at as well. And so far he hasn't been examined by these people either. Maybe they will refuse him too. (Sorry Yogi.)

I really do understand all the Dr.s' reticence. After all, in our society everyone is looking for that 'pot of gold' and performing an operation on someone which could very well leave them as a parapalegic leaves them open to a substantial lawsuit. "Run Forrest. RUN"!

Must give you a second thought or two as well, I bet. Did you ever follow up on the pot thing? That link I gave was talking about some kind of spray that wouldn't have you sucking smoke into your lungs and maybe not make you high as well. And they found it effective against neuropathic pain. Maybe that's a better alternative than risking paralysis.

Thanks andy, I did discuss this with the medicos. They will certainly entertain the idea " if my situation results in permanent chronic pain management".

I'm off to Calgary today to see a 'pain management' specialist tomorrow morning. Pain ablation. My understanding is that the procedure involves injections or cauterization of the nerves which are causing the pain. As far as I am concerned, that is only treating the symptoms, not the cause. I'm obligated to go, at least for an assesment. And that's all it will be!
