Visit with the Doc again today. Hoping that after consulting with the specialist that they came up with an alternative. Nope! More surgery in my future. Going to cut the nerves on both sides. IF it works it will bring welcome relief, but I'm kinda nervous about it cuz if it don't work then I'm screwed as it is not reversible! Keep taking Gabapentine 7 T-3's. Take it easy. Try to do stuff to "keep my mind occupied".But if I feel up to it I can do some small, light work.
Also suggested that I start drinking 4 cans of Ensure per day. My weight has dropped to 112 Lb. 8O Can't figure that one out either!

Holy chit! I haven't seen 112 since I was.... 12!

Guess you're just gonna have to extend your visit a bit. We have no problem fattening anyone up around here! ROTFL ROTFL ROTFL

What would you like for dessert this time?

I never met a dessert that I didn't like! i think a feed of lots & lots of calories wouldn't hurt you either. On the other hand methinks ya better get some extra lettuce for 'the Boss'! ROTFL ROTFL

If you're like me, Yogi, just consuming fatty and calory rich foods won't do it for you. For me to gain weight, it has to be by adding lean muscle. Exercise (a lot of it, but nothing excessive), and a lot of protein rich foods (meat, fish, whole grains, nuts and milk products).

I'll be going over my complete diet in the next few days. As far as exercise goes I have to be very careful. Going to have to find the solution in my diet.

Make sure your stomach can handle it. All the fatty stuff might cause problems...

Add Vector cereal to the list. VERY healthy, but designed for athletes, so it's high in calories, carbs, protein.. all the stuff your body needs.
High sugar contents are going to be useless to you because your body apparently metabolizes it ridiculously well! (Can I have a bit of that, please? )
I've had a couple girlfriends who have been on doctor ordered weight gain programs. It's crazy how much they had to eat to gain a couple pounds a month! Piss me off..

That's right ... especially your gall bladder that has to deal with the fat.

  A lot of the ladies around here have actually commented "I hate you" when they see how much I have loaded on my plate. One time, as I was finishing eating one of the ladies went over to the dessert table and brought over the whole platter of pastries saying " Here. You're the only one here who should be eating these anyway"!

My dad's the same way. We went there one weekend and I brought three pies, thinking one for that night's dessert and two for the freezer for later on. After dinner, I ask him, "Which pie do you want for dessert?"
"Ohh... geez, I dunno hun. I'm pretty damned full."
"Well which one do you want later?"
"Hmm.. well... Boy I'm full. Maybe just bring me one piece of each. Oh, and a coffee!"

Well, it's been an eventful week. I finally got up to GP to see the specialist again. QBC picked me up at my hotel and brought me home for some of Rosies great home cooking. Slow cooked 'pulled' elk. Beet greens, Beans & spuds, salad & topped off with fresh baked lemon cake with sauce. And then coffee. We visited till almost midnight.  I'm moving back to GP & live in there basement! 'We' decided to try a different process & mix of injection instead of just opting for surgery again. He cautioned me that this would absolutely be the last time we could do injections. If successful I would be relatively pain-free for 5-6 mos. Anything less than 1 month is considered a failure. He mixed Marcaine with a steroid. I thought I would be getting the Marcaine first to freeze the area before the steroid injection. Nope! Both together and then he 'fanned out' the injection, which is once the needle was inserted deep into my abdomen then he pulled back slightly without taking the needle out of me ,and then he moved onto the next of 4 nerves injecting each one. I had to have that process on both sides. It was about 1/2 hr of hell before the freezing started to set in. Started to feel pretty good by 2 hrs later. Which is good cuz I had to wait at the airport for 5 hrs. Shoulda been a good flight home. My flight was scheduled to leave at 3:35 so be in security line up by 3. I was. Enter QBC. 8O He was 'out & about' and stopped by the airport. " C'mon, let's go have a [B-o] . You got lots of time"! He walked me back to security. We exchanged 'big sloppy wet ones' and shed some tears  and I was on my way home. Ya right. I'missed the friggin plane by 2 minutes!    Got rebooked for 9:35 PM. I phone Q and layed it all on him. He come back to the airport & picked me up and he & Rosie took me out to an Indian restaurant for supper. Really good food, the Company & conversation was even better! Back home with them for Rosies home made lemon cake & coffee. The Big guy was determined to get me onto the plane on time this time! I was thru security before 8:30! Plane was delayed by 1/2 hr-how come the fuckin plane was right ontime when I was running late yet the fuckin thing was delayed when I was 1 hr early??? Home by 12:30 A.M.

So here I sit 1 week later & "I am a failure"! The injections didn't work. Now I am faced with a serious decision. Try to live the rest of my life managing the pain with drugs, effectively ending my working career as some days it's all I can do to get around the house. Most of the time laying in bed as even minor activity makes it worse. I never know what each day will bring. Can't really set up a job for a week or so & then in the middle of it not be able to work for a day or more. Sometimes I think the day is good. Next to nothing for pain & then it hits me. Hard! This is exactly what happened to me last month & I had to get my son & 1 of his guys to come finish it.
Or do I go for the 'pain ablation surgery' which entails another operation to sever all the nerves in my abdomen. From what I have been able to find (& as discussed with the surgeon) the success rate for this is around 80%. But 'success' seems to have a way of eluding me. Once done, regardless of the outcome, it is non-reversible. If it 'goes bad' it will be way worse than what I am experiencing now. If it 'goes good' then of course life will be pretty close to what it was before I got the hernias. "It's your choice" says the Doc. Talk about mixed emotions. I have an apt with my own Doc on the 30th. Till then it's "take your meds & take it easy".

shit, man, that's a tough decision to have to make. Medicine has a lot of successes, but managing pain doesn't seem to be one of them.

Why will severing nerves possibly make the pain worse? If the op is successful, are there any side effects from severing the nerves?

My mom had TGN(Trigeminal neuralgia) and after everything else failed, including morphine(she didn't want to spend her days as a zombie), she went for the nerve being 'crushed'. The doctor warned her that it could result in her looking like a stroke victim, as the there was a risk the entire left side of her face would sag due to the main nerve being destroyed. Fortunately, this didn't happen and she was able to eliminate the pain.

I'm not really too confident in the Mayo since I would have to be referred by and to a Dr. chosen by the original surgeon. I have absolutely no faith in that prick!

My understanding is that as well as not necessarily reducing the pain the nerves could be so entangled that 'something else' may have to be severed too. He was n't able to be really specific, but he assured me that he wasn't referring to 'the other something else'! Those something elses would have to be severed & removed if he were to try to remove the mesh. Ain't happening!

Oh, and I'm sure it was me who asked your stoned self at least 4-5 times, "Do you really think we have time to go for coffee?" to your response, "What, you think they're going to leave without me?".....Ummmm....YES!!!!

XD
