So, I tried going back to work while waiting to get injections. Really, wasn't too bad. But still not able to do what I used to or concentrate enough to maintain my own standards. Finally got the call to go into the hospital. Got the injections on bothe sides. Aside from the real pain caused by the injection [huh] which with being used in conjunction with Marcane for numbing absolutely no positive effect on the left side. The right side injection seemed to have 'hit the spot'. My right side was absolutely frozen from below my knee almost up to my armpit. I was sent home to 'take it easy for a few dys'.
What an experience. When the freezing wore off the pain can back with a vengeance. About the same as it felt a couple days after my last surgery. Back to the hospital. I'm now taking Perkies, naproxen & gabapentine. Finally getting used to it, but still feeling stoned all the time. Can't drive or operate any machinery yet. Really have to stop anfd think about what I want to do befor e I do it!  Thank God for great neighbors and family.
Drs are supposed to be 'consulting' this week to see what went so wrong and if I have any other options beside more surgery.

Back to the Doc today(yesterday?) to see if he would do the second of the 3 injections. The therapy requires 3 sets of injections spaced one week apart. Cumulative effect. Nothing doing!
I now have an appointment with the specialist for the 16th of next month to discuss what apparently is the only option left.

Surgical Re-intervention
The newest surgical studies and research support surgical intervention with removal of the three main sensory nerves of the groin. These nerves are the ilioinguinal, iliohypogastric, and genito-fem-oral nerves. Removing only one nerve and/or attempting a neurolysis (freeing the nerve from scar) has been fraught with failure to eradicate the painful symptoms. This treatment is incomplete and requires further expensive interventional treatment.

As a result, the optimum treatment regimen would be to perform a triple neurectomy and neuroplasties or implantation of the nerve ends into pristine muscle tissue or “virgin soft tissue.” Implantation is done to prevent neuroma formation. Prior alternative nerve transposition did not yield optimum results because the transposed nerve was irreversibly damaged and more scar would form. This was a set- up for prolongation of the neuropathy symptoms and eventual triple neurectomy.

I certainly have some trepidation about this, but right now I am quite willing to entertain almost anything to aleviate my situation.

 removal of the three main sensory nerves of the groin. 8O

Methinks in view of this^^^ my trepidation is justified!

I am doing all the 'research' that the interweb provides. It appears that I am out of options so it is either removal of nerves or living the rest of my life on some serious drugs.

OK

So if they remove the nerves successfully, everything will be ok, you won't
need the drugs, you can walk and work and your junk will still work ?

And they fuck it up, are you looking at..

pain ?
issues in the 'man' dept. ?
paralysis ?

or something else ?

Yup to all of the above! the key word is 'successful'. If not then all I have been able to find so far is that the pain would be a lot worse & the procedure is not reversible. So right now I feel like this operation is a real 'crap shoot' but I'm getting to the point of "Let's do it"!

That's not much of a choice, man.

Smacks so much of a last chance 'crap shoot', as you said.

Any idea of the success rate ?

I hope you make the right choice, you are in all our thoughts. [B-o]

Thanks Martin. [B-o] The 'sucscess rate' is the research I am doing now. So far that ain't to encouraging. To use the words of one person who has had the operation "you don't know what pain is until you have had this operation"! 8O 8O Hopefully I will find more positive results from others.

If you can, find a surgeon who has done many or some of these before.

If he says something about seeing it on YouTube..........grab his nuts and squeeze.

Good luck!!

Visit with the Doc again today. Hoping that after consulting with the specialist that they came up with an alternative. Nope! More surgery in my future. Going to cut the nerves on both sides. IF it works it will bring welcome relief, but I'm kinda nervous about it cuz if it don't work then I'm screwed as it is not reversible! Keep taking Gabapentine 7 T-3's. Take it easy. Try to do stuff to "keep my mind occupied".But if I feel up to it I can do some small, light work.
Also suggested that I start drinking 4 cans of Ensure per day. My weight has dropped to 112 Lb. 8O Can't figure that one out either!
