I finally made it up to G.P. to see the specialist. I really had my hopes up. Not to be! Bottom line is that my situation was left untended for far too long and now it is too involved to be safely and effectively rectified. He will operate if I insist, but made it very clear that he does not want to. Of all of these type of messes that he has operated on with any success, he feels that my situation is beyond surgical intervention. He gives an 80% chance of me coming out of surgery as a parapalegic should I decide to go ahead with it. I won't get too descriptive, but add to losing the use of my legs the very real possibility of actually having my 'boys' removed as a bonus! He explained very clearly all the nuances so that I will be able to make an informed decision. I am supposed to think about it for a week and then phone him. Now there's a real difficult decision to make, eh! Anyway the immediate alternative is steroid injections. Could last a week. Should last 2-3 mos. I opted to try the injections for now anyway. He was going to inject me with Marcane as a local and then the steroids. He didn't have any Marcane so I told him to just go ahead with the steroid injections. Docs eyes got real big for a sec and then he just shrugged his shoulders. ![huh? [huh]](./images/smilies/icon_scratch.gif) I mean, I've had lots of injections how bad could this be??? I fuckin soon enough found out how bad it could be!! Fuck I'm sure that he poked holes in the examining table when he pushed those needles into my abdomen! I must be a real pussy cuz that fuckin hurt. TWICE! Not so bad the first time, but when you know what is comming yet again, well, suffice to say that I completely understand how a cat can get up to the top of the draperie rod without any seeming effort and in such quick time! Too his credit I must say that the Doc was right in telling me the pain would quickly subside. I have finally been able to just sit normally on a chair without it hurting my 'tail bone area'. The other pain is also greatly reduced. Sorta like just having a kick in the nuts instead of having my balls squeezed back and forth thru the wringer. He did caution me that I will never be pain free regardless. I should be soon started weaning off the stronger drugs but "always keep a pocketfull of tylenol with you". Should soon be able to get back to some semblance of a normal life. I guess the next few months will tell.

Yogi Yogi: I'm not ruling out weed yet at this point. Never rule out weed. I recall back in University being so high that I had to turn down the radio because I couldn't taste my food.

You should investigate weed right away. Don't just score some shit, look for weed that's been researched to help with pain. There are companies doing research for the best strains for different conditions. I'm not sure, but I believe for pain you actually want pot low in THC (that makes you high) and high in cannabinol, which doesn't. In Vancouver, at least, there are serious people who don't just use medical pot as an excuse to deal, but are really trying to approach it from a medical perspective. So you wouldn't need to walk around buzzed all the time. (personally I would find that very unpleasant.)
But also look for people who can help you manage dealing with the pain without drugs of any kind. This approach is usually based in mindfulness, learning accept the pain and coming to see it as just a sensation, like any other. Maybe to you it sounds hokey, but it seems this approach really can help. No drugging out, no side effects except good ones (more calm).

Your trip just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it? Left ya a note, but had to put it on the F-thread. Wasn't appropriate here.

Yogi Yogi: Oh lord. You've officially survived the trip from hell. Give us a buzz when you're coming back. You have all of our numbers. We'll make sure you get fed and watered, at the very least!

Not hokey at all andy. ![Drink up [B-o]](./images/smilies/drinkup.gif) This type of weed would be something I could be interested in persuing. I would be interested in any more info you could provide. I can already feel the effects of the injections wearing off. Of course the next medical suggestion is going to be for 'full ablation'. I'm really going to have to weigh the pros & cons of that.

Update: So, the injections I was given by the good Dr. in G.P. lasted all of 72 hrs. The pain came back with a vengeance. I went in to see my family physician, who also is trained in 'pain ablation' type injections. Expected him to give me the second in a series of three. Not to be. "What's the point if it only lasted 72 hrs? You and I both need to consult with Dr Miles. In the meantime go home, take it easy, and up the Gabapentin & tylenol". Dr. Miles is 'unavailable' till Sept 9th! Fuck it! I got ahold of 1/8 oz of weed for $60.00. (Good price??) Rolled up a fat one & smoked 1/2. Within 15 mins the pain started to subside. Still clearheaded enough to be able to read a book and function 'normally' though was feeling kind of lightheaded at the same time. Certainly would not consider driving a vehicle feeling like that! I guess my question to 'those who would know' is " Will the 'lightheaded feeling' dissipate after a period of continued use or stay the same? I haven't 'partaken' since as the pain is 'manageable' now with my scrips. Should I resume smoking and quit the scrips all together? How often"?
