I'd like to see a team in the Maritimes and Quebec City. They each just need someone to step up and build a decent size outdoor stadium.

I want a team in the Maritimes. Only then can it really be the "C"FL. I know that any of the capital cities in the Maritimes could support a CFL team.

devioustrevor devioustrevor:
Victoria -- I don't think the city has the population or economic base.

Victoria certainly has the population to support the CFL, football is not big on the island though, as for the economic base this is a government city with plenty of other jobs.

On another note, we dont have a stadium that could support a CFL team or that much space to build one.

I would love to see a maritime team! Forget Victoria, that's encroaching on Lions turf and they're my 2nd fave team after the Riders. I'll wait to see if QC can support a hockey team before we try to introduce football there.

Halifax period, the east coast needs a team, and they have the capacity.

Finiteman Finiteman:
As far as American cities, there are plenty of US cities that could regularly sell the 20-30K tickets needed to support a CFL team, but IMO, CFL fans as a whole (and maybe the CFL BOG) do not seem to want to hear about them. :)

Didn't we try that once before?

The only city that was even remotely successful was Baltimore and as soon as they put an NFL team there, the Stallions moved back to Montreal, which, to paraphrase a convicted felon "was a good thing".

Let's leave the CFL in Canada where it belongs. We don't have the money or hype to compete in the US market, even though our product is older and infinately better.

If I was given a choice for expansion, I'd have to go with Halifax over Ottawa, since Ottawa has had two kicks at the kat and pooched them both, even though one was the fault of the Glieberman ownership.

Even tho I'm not a 'coaster I think expansion into the Martimes would be great for the league. Not sure about Windsor, it's more American than Canadian anyway lol.
London would probably be my 2nd choice but we already got 2 teams in Ontario. I'd like to see some more expansion to even up provincial/regional representation(where possible anyway) before granting Ontario a 3rd team

Yeah, Ontario can barely support the 2 teams it has, let alone take on a 3rd. We're very Americanized when it comes to entertainment. If there were to be another Ontario team, I would support an Ottawa team, simply because there was a history there. Otherwise, Ontario would be my last pick.

West-BC,Saskatchewan,Calgary,Edmonton

Central-Winnipeg,Toronto,Windsor,Hamilton

East-Montreal,Ottawa,Quebec City,Halifax

Natural rivalries and shorter travel. You play each in your division twice, then the other 8 once and then every year.

Winnipeg plays Sask and Calgary.
Toronto plays Montreal and Ottawa.
Hamilton plays BC and Edmonton.
Sask plays Winnipeg and QCity
BC plays Hamilton and Halifax (ocean to ocean title)
Montreal plays Toronto and Windsor
Edmonton plays Hamilton and Halifax
Calgary plays Winnipeg and Q City.
Ottawa plays Windsor and Toronto

I'm really impressed with how the CFL is handling expansion right now. No longer is it expand-expand-expand for the sake of expanding. They're taking it slow and getting it right. Cities are now seeking teams instead of the leagues seeking cities and in my mind that's the way to go. Create demand for your product and then cater to it.
As of now, I believe the plan is for Ottawa to get a team for the 2013 season. Hopefully the city gets it stuff together for the new stadium and landsdown revitalization. I think the league should be able to succeed in Ottawa with a strong ownership team and a 'decent' product on the field. They failed the last time because of poor ownership, terrible marketing, and a poor on-field product. The most important thing for a CFL team is strong ownership as it's the only consistent factor in a football team and if the fans buy into the ownership they will support the team in tough times.
Once Ottawa is in place it would move back to:
West: BC, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg
East: Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal
After that I would suspect to see the league move into one of Quebec City, Moncton, or Halifax. My thought is that the league WANTS Halifax and under the old way of operating (expand for the sake of expanding) they would go there but under Cohon they are more apt to go to Moncton simply because the city really wants the CFL. Although I think Halifax is the more logical choice (major airport, larger city, more corporate partnership opportunities) if Moncton wants it more they should get it.
I see Quebec City as the dark horse for the 10th team. Quebec City has strong football roots with Laval University as a perenial contenter in CIS football. The stadium situation is similar to Moncton (expandable to 20,000 with temp seating) so perhaps a few extra dollars and a 30,000 person stadium is built for a CFL team and CIS team. The city also has a larger population than Moncton and more corporate dollars so if they had the same drive as Moncton I would give them the edge.
All in all, I think the CFL is in great shape and talk of expansion is awesome for the league.

Halifax couldn't support an AHL hockey team and is barely supporting the Mooseheads Jr hockey team. As life long Haligonian it hurts me to say a CFL team would never survive in Halifax...
