Wally's goodbye: Buono will leave a coaching legacy after his final home game

After 25 seasons as head coach, 24 as a general manager, and 10 more before all that as a player, the B.C. Lions' Wally Buono will coach his last home game on Saturday.

Already easily the winningest coach in CFL history with 273 victories, Buono will retire sometime this month, when his Lions either win the Grey Cup or fall short in playoff defeat.

When the moment comes, he'll walk away with not only that record, but also five Grey Cup wins and 13 first-place finishes, both the most of any head coach in Canadian football.

I am so looking forward to attending tomorrow's Lions game. Apparently there will be quite the tribute to Wally's fantastic career.

I'm hoping the guys make Wally's final season a memorable one.

I was all set to root for Saskatchewan then...

Oh well.

So we'll have Calgary vs Winnipeg for the West final and Ottawa vs Hamilton for the East final.

Well here we are - it's Grey Cup time and though my Riders once again failed to make the party, I'll still be looking forward to the game. Being an ABC, the Redblacks have my backing in this one. The player I will be watching the most won't be Trevor Harris rather it will be little #10, Lewis Ward the RBs elite FG kicker. His story is one of this season's highlights, for me.
Last year at this time he was providing security for the team. This year he will be providing them with FGs after setting record after record during the regular season. At the CFL 2018 Awards he was named the Most Outstanding Rookie and the Most Outstanding Special Teams Player thus being just the 8th player to double their awards in the league's history. During the record season he far surpassed the former record for most consecutive FGs being good on 48 and had an accuracy rating of 98.1%.

On another note I am overjoyed to welcome the Atlantic Schooners - the newest CFL team - to the league. Good on the league. Good on Halifax. Can hardly wait till 2020 to watch your first game.
