Why is it my problem to make sure every person in Canada has cable and a LCD to watch it on. I’ve been to countries with real poor people and I mean dirt poor. Don’t preach to me about the poor. I’ve seen people in India and China do anything for work because there is no safety net. I’ll bet if I asked them if the poor Canadians you write about are poor I’m sure they’ll trade places in a heartbeat.

So we're comparing Canada to China and India now are we? Really? Large amounts of social inequality = proportionally high levels of crime. If you think there's not crime in China and India, thinks again. People there will chop your kidneys off and sell them in the black market. Yes, that's how poor some are! If you're ok with modern day slavery (of any race), being afraid to go outside without protection if you earn over X amount for a living, endemic white collar crime, endemic blue collar crime, selling organs to raise extra cash, illegally cutting down forests at night, illegally using slaves to mine, domestic terrorism, gun battles on the streets between warring crime factions, and kidnappings, then by all means, lets make comparisons. Now tell me again, are we comparing China and India with Canada?

EyeBrock EyeBrock: Welfare and Social Services are a provincial responsiblity, how is that Harpers fault Bruce? And more Canadians have and will vote for Harper than Dion or Layton, so your 'asshole' comment is just your opinion and it's hardly articulate. Harper is responsible for the well being of the country and 32% child poverty in the heart land is a failure. He's responsible for economic and taxing strategy. In addition the poor vote has to be assuaged as this is a democracy. I'm not suggesting heavy new taxes but the situation is not good, not prudent. I called Harper a asshole. He does not have the royal jelly. Something like 32% poverty in Canada's economic engine does not even interest him. Doesn't interest the NDP either, that's the way politics works.

Bruce_the_vii Bruce_the_vii: boy oh boy you really have to chew the turnip around here traditionally the answer has been unemployment Anybody in Canada that doesn't have a job doesn't want a job. If you have issues that make you unemployable in Canada maybe it's time to go back home. There are no laws saying we must hire people. If you have problems with the language, fix it. If you have problems with skills, fix it. We are not a socialist country, you have to be willing to help yourself before asking other for help.

This is not about joblessness. Sigh. You can hold a janitorial position, as so many immigrants do. It still means your child will fall in 32% poverty line. Most of us who do have good jobs don't want to get robbed by poor people's kids. Or shot at. It's nice not to get shot at. I came back from a trip to Brazil, and boy, was it a weird experience. High rise condos next to shanty, taxi drivers not stopping at red lights. Trust me, poverty is a bitch.

If 80% of an individual's income goes to rent, they are considered poor. Listen I know 2 janitors in a plant in Mississauga that make over 100K a year. To quote stupid liberals “this whole country is built on immigrants” do you think they all deserve 75K a year and a house because if you do there should be reparations for my great great great grandfather. Again get it through your head THIS IS NOT A SOCALIST COUNTRY.

hwacker hwacker: so you're an expert in brazil are you, you have no idea. Let's just say I don't like what I am seeing in Toronto. This is not a socialist country by any means. However there is a good deal of socialism in it. Do you think people defaulting on their debt is good us? Do you think I want my clients defaulting on loans we give them? Do you think I want my kid to go to a school and be influenced by drug dealer kids who's parents won't help them out? Resorting to drug sales and robbery is not uncommon for today's youth especially in the GTA. Don't kid yourself, people WILL do anything to get rich in this CAPITALIST country. ANYTHING. And yes I have been to Goa City in India. It's ok. There are severe problems there. And plenty of sex slaves.

See I don’t care what other people do as long as all my hard work doesn’t go to pay for lazy poor people. I’ll make enough money to give my kids all the cash they will need to be free from the BS the liberals spew. The problem is most people work dead end jobs and can never get ahead, it’s not my problem if you’re too stupid to figure out you’re too stupid to get out of a rut. If the world was filled with market capitalist we wouldn’t have to worry about money at all. would we ?
