If I started a church, the income of that church would be tax exempt, Ziggy. There are parking perks too, apparently.
Seeing as how I think churches should pay tax and don't mind tossing some quarters into the meter, I've never bothered to explore all the possibilities though.

I've been thinking of becoming a rev, still working on the religion I want to portray one that will give me the tax breaks while still allowing me to keep my values and maybe some morals if that's possible.

Ruserious Ruserious: Simple.. it's a not for profit.
Shouldice accepts your OHIP card whereas the Conservatives want to bring in American style HMO's which want your credit card.
41 million Americans have no access to health care.. because they can't afford it.
What do 41 million Americans' have to do with anything here in Canada?
Where in the CPC platform does it suggest they plan to bring in "American style HMO's?"
By all means, link to it Ruserious. We're all waiting.

Rev_Blair Rev_Blair: The public housing thing is just another lie. Layton and Chow paid what they owed based on their income in a mixed housing facility. The idea was that those with more money paid more, subsidizing the cost for those who had less. I'm disappointed Rev. I usually expect a well reasoned argument from you. You don't seem to have a response to this; $1: Motorcycleboy Wrote: That's true. Layton and Chow got a raw deal on that. It was a project designed to integrate a mixture of people from various income groups.
But the Shouldice clinic controversy is fair game. He's wrapped himself in the Canadian flag and promoted the idea that only unionized, public employees are capable of delivering health care in Canada.
For him to then turn around and visit a clinic that employs some degree of private sector involvement is hypocritical.
I hope you haven't been beaten down to the vacuous depths of a Ruserious or Derby.
I'm not kidding. I respect a well argued position, even if I disagree with it.
C'mon back. I miss you. And this one's worthy of further debate. But it must be debated by people with a brain. Like you and I. Ruserious and Derby are excluded.

41 million Americans have no access to health care.. because they can't afford it. What do 41 million Americans' have to do with anything here in Canada? Well if you're too bloody ignornant to see the link between the American style privatization of health care which the cons want to do here and how it treats the 41 million down there who can't afford it, then you're even more ignorant than I gave you credit for. Maybe you'd want to read about it first hand then. http://www.renfrewndp.ca/Press_Releases/Dec16.htm$1: Where in the CPC platform does it suggest they plan to bring in "American style HMO's?"

Harper and American style health care
Canadians cherish medicare. Yes, people are weary of wait times and willing in some cases to pay for timely care. But polls show that given the choice between a corporate-driven for-profit system and their publicly funded system, the great majority choose the latter.
Well get ready for American-style health care if Stephen Harper and his Conservatives win the election because that is exactly what we are going to get.
Stephen Harper's roots are with the National Citizens Coalition, a far-right lobby that was founded to fight public health care. The NCC has been consistent in its opposition to medicare. Harper himself is on record calling for private health services. He told the NCC's newsletter, The Bulldog, "Its past time to scrap the Canada Health Act." As recently as October 28, 2002, he told the House of Commons that privatized health care is a "natural development." Harper also of course, supports decentralized government and would give the green light to premiers such as Alberta's Ralph Klein to advance a for-profit system.
This would spell the Americanization of Canada's health care system. There is currently in NAFTA an exemption for health care which has allowed Canada to keep the big US for-profit health corporations out. But is only effective as long as our health care is delivered by governments on a not-for-profit basis; the more private services we allow, the more rights American corporations have under NAFTA to enter Canada. And under the "National Treatment" provision of NAFTA, they would have the same rights to government subsidies as Canadian not-for-profit services.
A vote for Stephen Harper is a vote for American style health care in Canada.

I personally have no problem with american style health care, but I am a selfish bastard. I think Harper is going to bring in two tiered. Not completely private.

Get back to us when you actively start contributing income taxes that amount to more than a basic gst rebate cheque.
Oh and if that's the type of healthcare that you want, I'd advise you to start saving your money now.
A simple child birth back in 1989 cost the average family in the U.S. about $4,334 for an uncomplicated hospital birth, according to a Health Insurance of American survey of 173 community hospitals, 70 childbirth centers and 153 licensed midwives.

Hey Ruserious, maybe you missed it. Nobody's paying any attention to your empty scare tactics this campaign.
Try a new tactic. It's not 2004 anymore!

Guess again MCB, that's why your cons are running scared and not talking to the media...
The fear factor is working. People are taking a closer look at the prospects of a cons government and saying woah... not so fast, that's not what we want at all.

hwacker hwacker: Rev_Blair Rev_Blair: The Shouldice Clinic thing was a bit of scandal-mongering by a group of people who have no use for the truth though, Ruserious. The whole story is just another example of Conservatives corrupting the truth. You know the type...half-bright rednecks who lack the intellectual wherewithal to do anything more than jabber like chimps about things they know nothing about. Everybody the Rev is going through a anger thing right now. You have to understand the socialist mindset to grasp the amount of rage. Don’t worry Rev you’ll be back on the bottom of things come Monday and the world will continue to revolve.
More like the rev's going through PMS. Post Martin Syndrome.

Conservatives are definately going to win the election, but I dont like their platform at all. It singles out certain groups of people. I'd rather the Green Party take this one, or at least get some seats in the house. Hopefully it turns out a minority government, then the Conservatives introduce proportional representation, and we have another vote of non-confidence so the Green Party can claim 5% of the seats in the house, instead of getting none or one like they might get in this upcoming election.
I personally hate USA's healthcare style, even though that may be introduced by the Conservatives, Canadians (mostly) with oppse this notion. AND if they go on ahead with this approach to healthcare, then in the future they may not trust the Conservatives to govern Canada.

Maybe you could get a career in the long term care thing and RU serious would have to rely on you to wipe his butt in about 20 years. Then lets see if your opinion counts.
