he went off half cocked too, which is why I didn't reply to him.

Too emotional. Doesn't take the time to read and understand before responding. The mind, when under stress (anger - pain - fatigue) focuses only on a few "stimulating" words. It often disregards the rest.

$1:
please Harper, take a look at STV.

This will never happen it is something the NDP and Greeparrty are pusing because it would give them more power in parlement, but it would also mean we would never have a majority governemtn ever again. If the NDP couldn't get the Liberals to do it there is no way the Conservatives and Bloc would.

It'll be interesting to see Harper and the Cons tone things down to make their ideas palatable. One false move, and instant non-confidence vote.

I doubt that. Canadians are soooo fed up with this. The party that'll dare propose a non-confidence vote in the next two years will be signing it's own death certificate. The Cons would have to do something extremely anti-Canadian for Canadians to want a nother vote anytime soon.

no we would get a majority govt under PR... if a party got over 50% of the vote which is the only time any party should have a majority

if Harper can stay away from his right wing, moral majority agenda and govern the country responsibly I don't care if he serves five years as PM, then another stint after. realisticly, I think he'll prove himself a fool within three months and be tossed out on his ear.

I still don't think it would help Canada the NDP claims it will increase voeter turnout as well it might but I am convinced that this is only pushed by third and forth rate parrties to incerease their power. STV is driven by parry stratagy not the need for reform.

How does teh current system help Canada? Of course the NDP and Greens push PR because they'll benefit from it the same way the Liberals and Conservatives oppose it because they'd lose out but the point isn't who benefits and who doesn't the point is that it's fairer

If you want true 'reform' you've got to kill the current party structure. What if, instead of having only one choice when you vote, multiple candidates could run from each party? Then you'd have two choices: person and platform. All the votes for each party would still count for that party, but only the candidate with the most votes would win. Right now the parties decide who we get to vote for, and there are some real dim bulbs out there. You may agree with the liberal platform but loathe the candidate...this would eliminate that. Each party would have to live by who the people choose instead of pawning off some lameoid (Hedy Fry, I'm talkin' to you!). You don't want to think about how many times a great person has been shot down by bullshit party power politics when they actually were 'the people's choice'.

What's more, how about when Parliament is dissolved, then the parties are dissolved. Elections would be longer yes, but the parties themselves would be forced to re-form around policies instead of personalities. Whichever platform/party won, the Prime Minister would be chosen from amongst them within a week of the election. Martin bulldozed his way into becoming liberal leader even though there were better candidates. This way the people would be choosing the policies and the best people; the elected party would have to choose a PM who would bring them about.

Just a theory...I know it needs some work.
