$1:
Unexpected moment of the day
A news release from the Liberals at about 5 p.m.: “ The Liberal Party of Canada and Green Shift Inc. have resolved their dispute over the “Green Shift” trademark. The Liberal Party of Canada will continue to use “Green Shift” under license from Green Shift Inc. Green Shift Inc. is not affiliated with the Liberal Party of Canada and the
grant of the license does not constitute an endorsement by Green Shift Inc. of the Liberal Party of Canada.”

Dion and all his hacks called this lawsuit "deplorable" but they bought their way out instead of changing their name or defending themselves in that $8 million dollar lawsuit.
.. and all they had to do was check the name before they used it. Does that sound like a well thought out plan to you?

They should have called it the Oxygen Tax. Theres 2 oxygen for every carbon in CO2.

...and you wouldn't hack on them if they would have gone in any other direction?

Think about it. Was that not the best option for them?

Not that I support the plan...but seriously, your bias is always showing.

If they looked into the name, saw someone already had it and switched to another name, they wouldn't have faced the lawsuit and this embarrassing failure.
Instead the arrogantly pushed ahead, like they were somehow entitled to do what they wanted.

Actually this is another victory for the Liberals. They ddi the right thing and came to an equitable agreement with the greenshift people. The Libs still use the name and both parties are satisfied.

Win-Win.

It's a desperate save at best and just another example of an uncaring, arrogant monster at worst.

What was so damned funny was that the Lib. party and all the reporters kept telling folks to go to the company website instead of the Liberal one.
Some 2-3 months since the professor came up with this brilliant plan and they still can't get a simple website correct.

I'm not the one trying to polish a turd here.
When I get a chance, I'll go back into the past threads and pull up some nice quotes about how this lawsuit was unfounded. The nice thing is that this big unexpected bill comes out of the election spending purse.

Go ahead. The fact that the greenshift company owners decided to settle out of court suggests that it wasn't the slam dunk you think it was but ultimately your opinion doesn't matter.

Both parties came to an agreement and the Liberals get to keep using the name which is entirely what they wanted. They weren't successfully sued and that is just pissing you off to no end.

Everybody of note involved is satisfied. Your opinion is less relevant then the parsley on a plate of food at a truck stop diner.

Sorry for your luck.

They had no choice but to negotiate because their whole plan relied on a name they didn't even own. The Libs couldn't wait for the lawsuit because they can't change the name now and if they kept using it, they'd just prove themselves more guilty.
That lawsuit was some $8 million and it was pretty cut & dried.
I'm guessing the settlement was at least half that.
Money that would have gone for already planned election costs like Dion's un-green plane.

You can't own a name in Canada. The most you can do is to register a trade-mark, If you go to greenshift.ca you'll see that the trade-mark is not registered.

Upon registration, the "®" symbol should be used next to the trademark to indicate that the mark has been registered (prior to registration the letters "TM" should appear next to any unregistered trademarks).

Canada, Trade-mark Infringement (according to wiki):
$1:
Under section 20 of the Act, the owner must have a) registered the mark, b) used the mark, and c) used it for the sale of identical wares or services.

You'd make a great lawyer!

Nope. Think again and your mindless and bias speculation is just crap. The Libs keep using the name and I doubt it cost them a single dime.

Sorry for your luck.

Nope your mind_less is wrong, the "libs" had to pay to use it. i'm thinking 1m but the details are being kept out of the news because we all know how damn broke the "libs" are.
