MONTREAL • The federal Liberals have lost their second Quebec candidate in as many days, again over inflammatory remarks about aboriginals. Senator Céline Hervieux-Payette, the party's Quebec lieutenant, told the National Post that Ricardo Lopez, a former Conservative MP under Brian Mulroney, has tendered his resignation as Liberal candidate for Beauharnois-Salaberry.
"He just said to me I don't feel comfortable any more, and I accepted his decision," Ms. Hervieux-Payette said. She said Mr. Lopez' decision was linked to media reports this week reviving comments by Mr. Lopez when he was Tory MP for Châteauguay.
In 1988, after Mohawks had blockaded a major bridge leading to Montreal, Mr. Lopez said: "I think all the Indians should be sent to Labrador, to go live together and have peace and leave us in peace."
The resignation follows Thursday's departure of Simon Bédard, who had been candidate for the Quebec City riding of Québec. During the 1990 Oka crisis, Mr. Bédard was a radio host who argued in favour of the use of force against the Mohawks, even if it resulted in "50 deaths, 100 deaths, 125 deaths." In an interview this week, he told Le Soleil that maybe his advice should have been followed, considering the problems plaguing the Mohawk community of Kanesatake.
Ms. Hervieux-Payette said she expects to have replacement candidates for the two ridings by Monday.
Typical Quebecois and they have the audacity to call Albertans rednecked racists .

Anyone remember the PQ, the closesst thing Canada has had to the National Socialists? Jerk Parissow, after losing his referendum, really made it clear what he and his ilk thought of those allophones who weren't descendants of french colonists from Normandy and Brittany.

Kenmore running for office? For every vote he gets, he promises he will deport one family of immigrants.

Before they join the party they are respectful people, but in order to get a membership card you have to sit through 14 hours of racist indoctrination. Duh.

$1: how many rednecks are running for the Liberal party?
Not nearly as many as are running for the Conservatives, but way more than are running for the NDP.

Looks like the Libs won't be calling Quebec home anymore. I's looking like the only place safe for the Libs is going to be Toronto. lol. The NDP are really eating the soft Marxist Leninist vote these days..

Not a lot of Marxist-Leninists in the NDP, Ridenrain. Of course with the dim understanding of the political spectrum and the various political philosophies most Conservatives have, I can understand why you'd be so willing to put your ignorance on display.

You're right. The NDP is too busy wooing the Khadr/terrorist vote. Can we get any further left with Layton? He's talking about government intervention into pretty much everything. Sounds like if elected (shudder), he would nationalize everything.

That should help counter the facist and nazi vote being cast for Harper.

That should help counter the facist and nazi vote being cast for Harper. Ironically it's the Liberals that are making all the racist comments. Just like the last election when they compared Olivia Chow to a Chinese dog.

Like crass puffin ads or fear mongering about country unity or economic diaster (the disater that Harper created) if voting Liberal?

Harper created an economic disaster? Really?
I wasn't aware that Harper sold billions worth of bad loans in the US. Nor was I aware that speculators and demand forced Harper to single handedly raise oil and gas prices around the world.
Country unity is a valid arguement. This is the first election in about 20 years where unity is NOT an issue. Quebecers HATE Liberals, ALBERTA and to a lesser extent Sask and BC hate Liberals as well. All have talked about seperation because of Liberal policies.
