http://www.cbc.ca/news/canadavotes/story/2008/09/11/flyer-kenney-election.html?ref=rss

I've had enough of these flyers show up on my doorstep that it's pretty obvious the Conservatives think of them as free campaign literature. I find it kind of ironic that the party that claims to be for law and order does the same thing they complain about gangsters doing...they break the spirit of the law, then dive for loopholes when somebody calls them on it.

Kenney's transgression is particularly egregious though. While other Conservatives used their privileges to send out what amounts to campaign literature well before the election, Kenney...who knew exactly when the election was going to be called...timed his so that it would drop during the campaign.

It's the kind of scheme that small-time criminals use. It's cheap and dishonest. It's unsavoury as hell. It's a misuse of taxpayers' dollars. The Conservatives dismiss complaints about it with a smirk and a wave of the hand. "It's technically legal," they say. That's about a hairs' breadth from saying, "It's only illegal if you get caught," and demonstrates the same mindset.

We need to change the law so these flyers quit being used by the Conservatives as campaign literature. Until then we need to hold the unaccountable bastards to account by voting them out of office.

Kenney is in a safe riding, but if he's relegated to the opposition benches we can keep him from abusing his Parliamentary privileges and stealing our money.

What? Junk mail? OMG.. (yawn)

I got a recorded phone message from Jack Layton on my cell phone.
Why is Jack Layton promising to regulate my cell phone bill while he's running up my airtime with his unsolicited slogans?

I got two like that one in quick succession in August, from James Rajotte. One had the same kind of ballot on it, but it was about the senate. I forget what the other one was about. I wonder if there are any more in the pipe...

I got about a dozen of them here, Hurley. They started almost immediately after Blaikie announced he wasn't running again. Some were from Manitoba MPs at least, but others were from MPs in Alberta and BC.

Now the Conservatives running Tomas Steen here...a half-bright hockey player who knows neither the national nor local issues. His campaign co-chairs are Hawerchuck and Bobby Hull. Wow, I doubt any of them have done more than drive through this area on the way to the mall. I can't remember if both of them are wife-beaters, or just one of them. At any rate, that's the level of contempt that the Conservatives have for the average voter...they give us half-witted hockey players instead of real candidates.

Ridenrain: No, this isn't junk mail. It's campaign literature that the Conservatives are using a loophole to make the taxpayer pay for. it's the kind of thing you used to get really mad about when the Liberals did it.

As for your cell phone...you must have gotten the number on a list somehow.

I got another one of these yesterday. We're almost a week into the election, so the Conservatives must have sent them on Saturday.

There is no way that this isn't election literature. The Conservatives should be billed for the costs.

I got about a dozen one page flyers from Mr. Bev Shipley, CPC, MP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.

It was ALL campaign literature. No news or substance.

I also got a call from his staff asking if I would vote for Bev Shipley. I said no and the caller hung up without even asking me why.....

All the flyers were the same as shown in the article.

Yah, and we paid for those. It doesn't come out of the Conservative coffers, it comes out of federal tax money. They are stealing from us.
