well an actual election is still a aways off but maybe not that far .

so guess i'm trying to start a discussion about what kinds of issues might be talked about or should be talked about during election .

and trying to look beyond the schreiber/mulronrey thing which is more a story and not an issue .

some issues could include the economy , health care , crime /justice issues, environment , electoral reform of senate , leadership
well i'm not going to try and name them all thats to be determined during discussion i hope .

going to add 2 other potential issues to this discussion

what about income trusts , is that one still big or old news ?

and long running issue of gun registry never seems to go away , could be back by next election again .

agree with canadian mind that military could be an issue during election but not sure how interesting talking about arctic sovereingnty is to some voters and candidates .

It's very interesting to most the public, not the top priority, but usually #2 or #3 I'd say. It's on everyones minds, but their is virtually no controversy, which is why we never hear about it on the news.

The Libs will continue to make the non issue about the environment an issue.

Dion will don a cape and suit and call himself ENVIRO MAN with his side kick dog KYOTO, the people in Ontario will eat that shit up with the help of the CBC.

Ad nauseum - from St Steph, Jack and Lizzie. I'm not sure I'll make it through the campaign.

And how horrible the Tories are - no "national" day care plan, draconian approach to justice, canning the Charter grants program, cutting back on SOW. And my favorite, explaining how a cut in the GST is "bad economics". :(

a posiblity doubt the liberals will be interested in talking about much else , but i kinda wonder if it might be hard one to get thru to voters especially during the winter .

can only picture what kind of a repsonse some liberal canvaser is going to get on a cold winter day trying to tell some uninformed voter about climate change .

on the gst issue i suspect the liberals will claim and expect voters believe them in claim they want to cut other taxes instead . i myself doubt there seriousness after many broken promises , but expect them to promise to cut income taxes even though provincial liberal governments in places like ontario could allready do this and aren't but were suppose to believe dion on this one.

I was voting Liberal, then switched to Conservative, and I'm more or less as satisfied as is possible with a political party, but I can list the kind of stuff that still bothers me, and might sway me back leftier if they addressed it. This is from a West coast perspective. Some are maybe provincial, but if the problems can't be addressed provincially, maybe we need a federal solution.

* Long line ups in emergency wards, and lack of beds, and medical professionals bugs me. Medical care in general.

* Selling out to multi-nationals is another one. Even small ticket items like pandering to multi-national corporations on the copyright issue rather than looking for a Canadian solution.

* Crime. I don't like it that my personal car has been broken into, or vandalized 3 times in the last 3 months. I don't think this policy of rob the poor to feed the rich works. Too much crime, and noticeable poverty. I don't care if they can point to statistics showing how much richer we are.

* They won't get my vote by attacking the Tory position on the environment.

* Saner immigration policies.

* The last leg of the trans-canada highway is a mess. Every time I sit in line waiting an hour to get on it I find myself wondering if they have to deal with this in Ontario.

* In fact...from a western perspective, I still have this feeling too much is going East, and not enough is coming back.

agree health care is a largely forgoten about issue on the federal political scene , it has in past been top issue but now fallen back to maybe top 5 .

on crime its an issue and one which conservatives have tried to address but liberals have made passign bills a challenge

for the trans canada highway unsure how that would be addressed during an election or how funding is decided for each indidvidual province .

This always seems to be an issue, and nothing ever seems to change about it.

Further the selling of corporations that have been largely funded by tax payer dollars needs to be addressed.

Yes, the attacks are annoying, but everyone attacks each other it seems, it's just a pain.

The last time I was on it, it really depended what section you were on, some parts are hell others heaven.

From an Ontario perspective, it feels often like money is simply going everywhere else.

One thing I'd like them to talk about is Net neutrality, but I doubt that they will.

Honesty in government.

Violation of election rules by the party that was pledged to clean out the stench of Liberalism.

Old news, no government in their right mind will open up the trust issue again. It was a good thing to close them down and anyone who claims other wise is either pandering for votes or was an investor who got burned.

The environment, the economy and trade, Conservative scandals, Afghanistan, and the general cuts to social programs will all be issues. Conservative mismanagement is likely going to be big.

I wonder if the Lib's will continue with their "raise the GST" stance seeing as how they have been so vocal about it in response to the Bank of Canada's announcement today.
