I had most of this afternoon free, so I helped chaperone my wife's Grade 2 class on their field trip. We went to the local police station and were given the grand tour. After a brief speech, the kids were invited to handle the tools of the trade. This included the M-16 A2 and the 9mm. All of the kids got to try on the body armour, riot equipment and have their pictures taken....fully loaded for bear. I don't remember getting to do this when we visited the local RCMP detachment as a kid, especially being able to handle the firearms.

In away it is a good thing because this generation can see the police as guardians and friendly, unlike their parents and grandparents who experienced the police as corrupt tools of KMT authoritarian oppression. I'll post some the pics, when I get some copies emailed to me.

Hmmm.... I've been in holding cells lots, but on the other side of the door. Worked as a guard on some evenings and weekends at the local detachment when I taught up in northern Manitoba. Got to see a Duck fuck a Trout amongst other things.

In grade 12 we got to go to a murder trial for our Law class. We were sitting close to the jury and when they passed the pictures of the victim around we caught a brief glimpse of a red smear. Supposedly this guy didn't know his daughter in law was under his car and he backed up and down the drive way a few times, trying to dislodge something stuck in his undercarriage.
