i'm sure u all remember the "I am canadian" guy from the beer commercial who was dubbed "Joe Canadian". I just found out in an online article he moved to Los Angeles a while ago. wow what a true patriot.
i think his new slogan should be "I am Canadian!!!........ except like all other famous canadians, I have now moved to the United States"

A beer comercial can only put so many groceries on the table, and pay the rent for so long. How else was he supposed to make money?

Exactly. And do you have to live and work in Canada all your life to be considered "Canadian"?

I doubt Michael J. Fox, etc. would have been as succesful if they had stayed in Canada. How bout all the doctors & nurses that have gone south for the money? That's why most of our doctors now have names I can't pronounce. Now that's a shame rather than some actor moving to LA.

it's all the same. whether it's doctors actors or whatever. the fact that most of our successful and famous people leave canada for the US is a problem. or at least i see it as one.

I must say, if Canada could produce a decent TV show, maybe some Canadain actors would stay in Canada. Please name a good Canadain Produced TV show or movie for that matter.......Kids in the Hall was awesome and I was sad when it went off the air, but just about all of them got jobs in the States. That is where the money is. If I was good at anything, I would move to where ever I could make the most money.....Sorry, but I do LOVE CANADA

I know that there is alot of crap coming out of Hollywood, but there is more money to be made because of Quantity not quality. As for Canadain shows, Road to Avonlea, Cold Squad, Neon Rider, not so much for me. However, I don't spend allot of time watching reality tv either.

You hit the nail on the head.

Ok people, were talking about Joe Canadian, somebody who made a commercial, not Michael J. Fox or Jim Carey. He can get a normal job in Canada like anybody else. Maybe he's a L.A Kings obsessive fan. I'll tell you one thing, my urge to drink Molson is rapidly going down the tubes...fast and not only because of the merger...

If I'm not mistaken, Alliance Atlantis is a Canadian company, hmmm.. that's pretty cool eh? I guess just go to a list of films produced by Alliance Atlantis and there you go.

The guy was only reading lines....he's an actor, not the symbol of this country. Who cares where he went. It was the speech that made the ad, not him. You could have stuck anyone in there and it would have been just as good.
Besides, Molson is American now. I've taken to Keith's (love those commericals) or the local micro-brewery Fort Garry. Good stuff, and 100% Canadian.

face it actors, comedians, singers, news anchors etc are ego-driven, so they'll always want to be on the bighest stage possible and in the English speaking entertainment world that's the US.

lily lily: This is the real problem - if it's on CBC we look down our noses, assuming they can't possibly be as good as the ones filmed in the US.
The real problem is that canada needs to begin exporting their shows. There are plenty of good shows, but the problem is that they stay in canada, and that means to an actor that if he is going to reach a larger audience and attain fame, then the US would be the place to do it, since not only are there 300 million americans, but the shows get sent all over the world (some of them at least).
Some shows, such as Corner Gas, I can get on DVD, but it is next to impossible to find out about them if I have no where to find them on TV. Which would be dissappointing to those who are seeking fame and glory.
And people claim that this doesn't happen anywhere else, but it does, but what doesn't happen is people berating the people who leave. I can remember a recent 60 minutes II presentation on how a top bollywood star has decided to move to the States to attempt to make it even bigger.
