An on-going zombie apocalypse TV series? Based on one of the hottest comic books of the last five years? Huzzah! I very well could end up pissing myself out of sheer awesome excitedyness.

I just had a couple of kids looking over my shoulder at the trailer. They're looking forward to seeing it.

Edmonton Public Library got the Walking Dead compendum (Issues 1-48) so I got it out and read it. It was pretty good, but was a rather typical zombie yarn - find a 'safe place, tension builds between total strangers once resources dwindle, strangers show up to take away the 'safe' place, etc. There were, however, a few little sub plots that were unique.

I liked the artwork and admired that the author did so many issues (up to 72 now I think), but was disappointed that it was formulaic in a lot of ways. If the series follows the storyline exactly, I won't be too interested, but if they let the writers add in some wrinkles or out of the ordinary sub-plots, it could be very good.

You mean something like making the wife/best friend sub plot more detailed? The stay at the prison is pretty fertile ground.

Thanks Thanos

$1:
The Walking Dead (Premieres October 31, 2010 - 6 Episode Order)

And I can hardly wait. [B-o]

Love George A. Romero's classics and the newer ones like 28 Days later so I'm definately looking forward to this series, but I do have one favor to ask.

Could someone remind me about it on about October 29th. Getting old is so much freakin fun.

My hopes are high, I and hope it doesnt suck. One thing worries me though, when a speeding car hits a spike strip it doesnt do backflips in the air. :? I hope they dont have more of that in the series.

Looks good. I take AMC is a specialty channel ? I'll pick up the comic books first and wait for the DVD set. Although I must say After 28 days later series I'm a fan of zombies on speed species, slow moving zombies tres 80's imho.

Unless there's different types of zombies not shown in the preview.

I didn't care much for the prison storyline, but the wife/best friend one was pretty good.

They're all slow-moving Romero version zombies. No running or flying or being able to crawl across ceilings the way they've been re-imaginged in some of the dumber movies over the last few years.

The book doesn't have a lot of the Romero cynicism in it either. It's mostly survival and internal conflict, as well as some memorable encounters with some people who have gone truly bad (hello to the Governor of Woodbury!). But it's mostly about normal people in a bad situation. Frank Darabont's usually well skilled at respecting the spirit of the original source material, as he did with 'The Green Mile' and 'The Mist', so I expect him to do the same with TWD.

Walking Dead has slow zombies, not fast ones. Hope I didn't burst your bubble. Read the comics, the art and storyline are pretty good.
