A 12-year-old and a 15-year-old are in custody after police responded to reports of shots being fired in the West End area Wednesday.
At approximately 12:30 p.m. police arrived at the 700 block of Alverstone Street. A number of males had congregated in the area and confronted another group of men they knew, police said.
A verbal altercation led to one youngster pulling out a gun and firing it into the air and in the direction of the group. All suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Shortly after 7 p.m. a number of males in the 500 block of Home Street exchanged words with two other men. One suspect fired a shot in the direction of a house and then at one of the other men. The firearm failed to discharge, and the suspect was disarmed by people nearby and held until officers arrived.
The 12-year-old boy faces charges of attempted murder, discharge with intent, reckless discharge, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and a variety of firearms related charges.
The 15-year-old has been charged with discharge with intent, reckless discharge, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, assault with a weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.
The 12-year-old is believed to be involved in both incidents. Police also believe the same rifle was used in both incidents, as well.
Just another day in the hood. On the bright side, I'll be moving soon.
