When I went to school a million years ago, I was told the correct order for math of this sort was mutiplication first, division second, addition third, and subtraction fourth.

So, 6x8-5+9 would = 48 - 14 = 34. Or maybe Timmies uses "new math".....

Ah! So I am right (seeing as how there is no division in Timmies quiz) and Timmies is wrong! Does that mean Timmies has to recall the prizes "won" by all those who said 52........?

Whichever way you look at it... 51 was the wrong answer.

Both times.
So then you agree that everyone who wrongly answered 52 shoud have their prizes taken back, if you think this woman shouldn't have been awarded her prize?

But if you were supposed to do the adding and subtracting before the multiplication, wouldn't that part of the equation have been in parenthesis? But it's not, so on with BEDMAS.

First the multiplication. 6x8 = 48.
Then the addition. 48+9 = 57.
And finally the subtraction. 57-5 = 52.

If the answer is 34, the original problem should look like this: 8x6-(5+9)

1+1-1+1 is different than (1+1)-(1+1). There's no multiplication in there, but it's the same idea. The brackets (or lack thereof) make all the difference.

Maybe I'm just making it more complicated than it really is, but that's what makes sense to me.

Maybe I don't deserve a GPS system either! haha :D

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
Hey assholes, just type it into a fucking calculator.

The answer is 52.

Period.
Idiot! You should have gone to school. And you are dangerous with a calculator. You could hurt someone when you use it as a club.
As lily noted, I repeat myself (something Mark Twain-ish in that):

In the Timmie qualifier:
FIRST, there is multiplication;
THEN there is addition;
THEN there is subtraction.

Put THAT in your calculator and smoke it.
