so far this year, canada has had 42 recalls on products made in china, due to lead paint, toothpaste flavoured with prestone and products that just plain crap in their design. do you now look at labels to see if what you are buying was made in china, or have you always avoided buying chinese products from an ethical standpoint?

So many things are made in China though.

1 family had a REALLY hard time living without "Made in China" for a year.

Its near impossible.

Plus its way cheaper.

I will stick with my Chinese crap.

Whenever possible I try to buy local products. I also prefer to shop from an independent store than a major franchise/chain store. So shopping for me is a little mental checklist of sorts. I don't even consciously think about it, but when I go to buy something I look for the locally owned store, then when inside I compare products to find the best choice of products. Comparing where it was made and what it was made with.

It sounds like extra work to buy something, but it isn't because I just naturally do it. It doesn't take me any longer to shop and the majority of the time I don't spend more than anyone else. Some products are more expensive, but it all seems to come out in the wash.

Your only consumer voice is your dollar, so it is worth some thought when you spend it.

So far, I only avoid food products from China (since I don't have to worry too much about toys at my age).

And that's because at the food processing plant I work at, we often use food stuffs from China which more often than not, is crap.

I've personally boycotted WalMart for several years now due to their being 25% of China's economy.

I avoid Chinese products whenever possible even if it means I spend more money.

I cannot abide the fact that my money will be used by the PLA to oppress and murder people.

I avoid products made in China....I will go the extra buck and support Canadian and US made. I wont shop at Wal-Mart period!!!
China isnt the only country I avoid in my buying excursions, I avoid countries that have human rights violations as well as unfair work conditions.

Here's why I boycott China and Wal Mart.

*WARNING* this link has very gruesome pictures - and that is not a joke.
