the insecurity of atheists on this site is amazing
If just talking about the issue makes someone insecure (nice projection), what does that say about the Creationists that need to create entire museums to push their baseless, unscientific claims?

Yeah, complaining about the thread shows just how indifferent you really are.

Cthulhu ate Thor for a snack yesterday.
The Old Ones were a neat idea, but did you ever read the Color out of Space? I thought it was his best story...I mean gospel?

Sigh these threads come out every few weeks on this site. Seriously, the insecurity of atheists on this site is amazing. (yes, this is a bash-God topic, not a bash creationism one, with the many posts alluding to the first part).

I can only speak for myself of course, but I could care less if you believe in God, Thor, Zeus, or the Easter bunny. Therefore I don’t consider this a bash God topic.
A bash creationist topic may be very much to the point. A museum that glorifies the nonsensical movement that is also being pushed to be taught in schools deserves bashing. Personal beliefs that remain personal don’t hurt people. Personal beliefs that are taught/pushed/required reading are very harmful. Personal beliefs that insist the very fabric of science is wrong (ie:6000 year old earth), is nuts.

Firstly, i like the way you label anyone that disagrees with nonsense like a Creation Museum an "atheist" (perhaps they're "educated" "enlightened" or "informed") and then follow it up with your rather bushleague diagnosis that any commentary from said "atheists" is attributable to an"insecurity".
The fact that you believe your commentary is sacrosanct and others should "get over themselves" smacks of projection.
Sorry, if i feel like criticizing a Creation Museum, i'll do so and you're more than welcome to ignore my posts

Mustang,
The problem with anybody who believes in any sort of a supernatural creation myth is that they themselves are atheists to every other supernatural creation myth in competition for belief.
The Bible is no more authority for believing that the Abrahamic God is the only God out there than skaldic poetry is for believing that Thor and Odin hang out in Valhalla. Since each major religion has their own religious text that proves the religion true...each religion is on an equal playing field with every other. Thor is no more true than Shiva. To believe in Thor while denouncing Shiva is simply being an atheist towards Shiva.
What seems to elude a lot of people is that most people are born into a religion which forever colours their attitudes about other people's religions. If you put a child, raised with no religion whatsoever and completely ignorant of his parent's and his society's religion, in a room where he can tour various religions...would he naturally drift towards his parents religion?
For example, if one were to show scenes of the Bible to kids who had never known it, would they recognize the trappings of the United States in it and "choose" that religion? Well, the damn Bible-thumpers would have you believe "yes".
And too bad CommanderKai, when Creationism is getting bashed, religion is going to get bashed too for rather obvious reasons. If you don't like it, there's a museum in the south where you can hide.

I like how you set up your definitions such that everyone is an atheist in some respect. I find it tremendously insulting and yet hilarious for its obvious ridiculousness. So now an "atheist" is anyone who does not believe in a given set of religious precepts, instead of the standard accepted usage as one who does not believe in religion/the supernatural/"God".

Pseudonym,
You're right. Why is the Christian God given pre-eminence over other gods? What is it about Christianity that makes it the only damn "true" religion over every other one that has ever eked itself out? If somebody is a Christian, doesn't that mean they have to reject the idea of Thor? Christianity is pretty clear that there is a monotheistic trinity (yup, we're already off to a bad start) with Mary coming in a close fourth followed by hundreds of Saints all handling specific calls God's too busy for. It's no wonder Valhalla got annexed! God needed parking space and a lunch room for his Heaven Hotlines. Thor's out.
They in essence denounce the existence of Thor, claiming he's a figment of skaldic poetry. They're Thor Atheists.
How could they not be?

Yup, Valhalla is closed and deemed off limits, but I still have Thor's hammer.

Yeah, but without Tanngrisni, Tanngnost and the chariot it's just about as useful as one of the plastic Jesus bobble heads on the dash:
