Protesting and blocking roads is not something we should expect would result in tragedy. It's just not. This is 2018.

Get a permit for the protest march and conduct it in safety.

But 'spontaneously' block roads and expressways without a permit and see if I give a shit when someone runs somebody down.

So blocking a road is reason enough to run someone over?
So having a hissy fit about something is reason enough to break the law and block a road?
What right do they have to make someone late for work, or miss an important medical appointment?

I don't think they have the right to block the road. I tend to agree they should have been moved off the roads to continue the protest.

I assume you don't think they should be run over if they don't move though. Misdemeanors don't normally carry a death sentence.

The owner threw her out in support of her several gay employees. Huckabilly doesn't like gays, hence she was asked to leave.

If I'm not mistaken, blocking traffic in the US without a permit is a federal crime. Something along the lines of interfering with/distrupting interstate trade and commerce or something like that.

In the case of Charlottesville, I personally believe it was an intended, thought out act.
But if blocking the road IS your protest (and there have been a number of them in the US) well I got gas and first gear for a couple of short-term exterior passengers.

It's pretty simple really and it's something we used to be told as kids. If you don't wanna get run over, stay off the friggin' road.

Years ago I blew through a PSAC picket line at the airport. They were smart people though. When they realized I had no intention of stopping for their stupid picket line they jumped out of the way. That's what smart people do.

Recently I watched a video of some animal rights nuts trying to prevent a pig hauler from getting to the slaughter house. It was stopped at a light and the people were watering the pigs. Which was cool. But when they tried to prevent the truck from turning right, he just kept right on going with zero intention of stopping for them. What was funny though were the words of shock and disbelief from the protesters that the driver refused to let them bully him and prevent him from doing his job. I mean the tone of their voices was like they fully expected him to let them have their way. They didn't have a permit by the way.

Then there's videos of people rioting, blocking roads and getting run down. And I'm sorry but after seeing what can happen if you do stop, I'd be zipping on through as well regardless of who the group is that's rioting.

The guy in Charlottesville wasn't a commuter trying to get to work or a trucker trying to make a delivery on time. He's a hard-core neo-Nazi who aimed his vehicle at a crowd and floored the accelerator because he seriously wanted to kill people.

Coach85 Coach85:
Think for yourself. Don't believe everything Trump tells you!
Take your own advice. Don't believe everything the professional politicians and their media lapdogs tell you either.
Coach85 Coach85:
They did not need a permit to protest the rally.

They didn't have a permit to at Emancipation Park (they did for the other two) but the law states they don't need a permit to counter-protest in the park or on the roads around the park. In fact, they don't need a permit to enter the park at all.
The ACLU explicitly warns that your right to protest/demonstrate in the US does NOT include blocking roads and such without a permit.
Now, blocking roadways within a park is different. Those aren't used for interstate trade and commerce.

Sorry, I'm unfortunately used to a couple of the other culprits around here going to bat for the alt-Reichers when they kill someone that I assumed you were doing the same. My error.

So... You don't condemn murdering someone for protesting and blocking the road. Just so we are clear.

It is entirely possible to hit someone with your vehicle without killing them.
Of course if the police were actually made to enforce the law, people getting run down while protesting might be less of an issue.

Or just issue a proclamation that ANYONE blocking traffic of any kind without a permit will be arrested, charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

No worries. But I must warn you, I don't buy about 75% of the shit that's said about Trump. The whole "he's a racist/White supremacist" thing is just utter fucking nonsense. The stupid nazi crap is a joke too.

If you want to know why, I'll explain tomorrow. It's after 3AM here and I need some quality time with my pillow and mattress.

I don't think he's a Nazi, but he encourages those who are. And he's trying to derail the American federal system so he can rule by diktat, like an unaccountable king - Congress is increasingly gutless & irrelevant and Trump is going wild stacking every court he can with his acolytes and lapdogs. The Americans have been moving towards a plutocracy for a long time and all Trump's doing is being more obvious and open about it as opposed to the rest in the long-owned GOP who still mumble the crap about democracy and elections even when they obviously don't mean it. Not fascist, not Nazism, but a move towards establishing some kind of authoritarian rule over the United States is obvious enough to anyone with eyes that can see it.

A majority of polled Republicans also support Trump if he would want to suspend elections due to a major terrorist attack. This is the clearest sign that under him a Reichstag fire or Gulf of Tonkin incident is inevitable either before this November's midterms or before the 2020 general election. And I did definitely not believe this sort of thing when it was said about George W. Bush and 9/11.

If you spontaneously go out into a roadway to block it than you are taking the risk upon yourself. If you are hit it's your fault not the drivers. There are cases such as Charletsvile where the Driver purposely drove into a crowd. Yet if i'm driving down the road and a group is blocking the road and I can't stop in time not my fault. The road is for motorized vehicles not pedestrians.
