Er, if this becomes a wide spread thing, I think a lot of people are going to begin finding the smell unbearable, and the tasks somewhat alarming. Also, I hope these people don't want lawns...

More often than not, the truly atrocious smelling stuff you smell in the countryside is actually coming from hens, or pigs -- both of those anmimals are probably the stinkiest you can have once you have enough of 'em together out of all the popular forms of lifestock in Canada.

I have chickens and they don't smell so long as you keep after them. The worst smelling thing in my yard is when a neighbors' cat comes through and sprays the place.

It's a start I guess, but the homeless might appreciate something a little bigger

I like a lot of what Mayor Robertson has been doing. This isn't particularly one of them, especially the housing for homeless chickens.

Summer in Vancouver is what passes for winter in Sacramento so I don't think they have much to worry about.

Yeah, but you take effort to handle the manure and cleaning and likely gave them space. From experience in Vancouver, a lot of people like the au naturel factor. :D

I cede to your wisdom, since mine comes from the world of big hen barns which have a few thousand in 'em and not the tinier ones which hopefully are a little better on the neighbourhood than the big barns were.
