Lots of luck. Just because "soliciting" is illegal has not stopped it, and "outlawing" paying for sex sure won't stop that either. If they don't want girls brought in from abroad toughen up the immigration procedures.

$1:
UK 'should outlaw paying for sex'

Commons Leader Harriet Harman has told the BBC she wants the law to be changed to make it illegal to pay for sex.

She said ministers were to look at how Sweden brought in such a law, and said a "big debate" was needed in the UK.

It would counter international human trafficking which sees girls bought and sold by criminals in the UK, she added.

Buying or selling sex is legal, but many activities related to prostitution such as kerb crawling, brothel keeping, pimping and soliciting are not.

The government has toughened its stance on prostitution in recent years, after initially considering "tolerance zones".

Plans to permit small brothels, with two prostitutes and a maid, to operate legally also appear to have been shelved.

A Home Office spokesman said the idea was being put out to "further consultation" after concerns were raised about its impact on local neighbourhoods....(more)

I think prostitution should be legalized everywhere.

At least these women(and some men) would be forced to
pay taxes, and it would prevent people from collecting Welfare
cheques on the side.

Legalizing prostitution would also help diminish the violence
towards people in the sex trade.

These high class escorts really rake in the dough, they can make
thousands in a day.Why should they not pay taxes???

Prostitution is the oldest profession out there, and it's a
profession based on supply and demand.

Therefore,as long as there is horny men out there, prostitution
will never go away.lol

I was unaware that in Sweden it was illegal to pay for sex, which is quite surprising since all of those Scandanavian countries are suppose to be such bastions of left leaning, progressive policies. I'm not sure why Commons Leader Harriet Harman thinks Britons are really going to support this. Banning never accomplishes anything except increasing the bank accounts of criminal organizations.

Once you legalize it, you can regulate it and most importantly, tax it. Remember Al Capone? It was the tax man that brought him down, not the law dog.

I hear Germany has recently (like 5 years ago) legalized prostitution. How has it been going for them?

It's either 25 bucks for a blow job or a lifetime commitment to "love, honor or obey". Take your pick.

Remember the feminist joke - how are marriage and your job different after five years?

Your job still sucks. :D

I don't think prostitution should be legalized. And this is a start to stop paying for sex in this fashion. Or paying for it at all. There has to be something done, these women selling their bodies, being controlled normally by a Man to make more money for him. (Of course we know it goes visa versa too and the horrible child sex trafficking is closer to home than we think).

Of course I am of the mind that sex is only for a special person in life and one a person loves. Otherwise it changes and alters the whole thing and people become desenstized that it is just another bodily function.

It is human slavery and legal rape in a way and this begets other deviancies and thoughts in men and some women. It is just not simply having sex with someone for pay, it leads to other things and escalation for excitements. So I won't expound, but these women are drawn into this trade for many reasons, survival, seduction of money or drugs being a few.

They are all someones baby and child in life. The men who seek sex outside marriage or this type of sex are drawn, caught and addicted many times. Objectifying and horrible harms against all concerned.

Why do people believe they have to buy sex, when in this day and age we have become more freeing with sexual taboos? That new age and surge in the 60's was thought to be the answer for people to not get into marriages with poor sexual relations. Or to know a person well before commiting, thinking this was the answer. No one should have had to be paying for sex. It was all free back then. (to a point and not for all of course) But look at where it all goes.

Drugs, we give them free needles and we have more drug problems.
Sex offenders, we let them out and they re offend.
Prostitutes - legalizing, will just lead to more blatant misuse of the body and these young girls.

And many times these girls are from poor family, abused families and lack strong education.

We are in a sad society and I do hope that there are solutions and not of the kind to make it seem normal, but that it places it as abnormal to solicit for sex. That is the only way to start getting answers and solutions coming in from that perspective. People have to look at this situation as if it was their daughter or child.

Feeding more fuel to any fire? Makes the fire bigger and eventually out of control. I know it will always be with us, but it doesn't mean we have to condone it or encourage it at all.

I will have to look up how Sweden managed this and perhaps find some follow up stories. I am sure it is being tracked and researched.
It is sad, prayers for all. I hope something positive happens in the U.K. for us to start looking at solutions.

I hope our government gets a very well rounded "board" to look carefully at this concern in our country. Especially in each Province.
