I can see why they wouldn't like the cultural intrusion, but at the same time, Dubai is trying to sell itself as a tourist destination to wealthy westerners, and they know they have to accept western culture to be succesful.

For instance, during Ramadan, they have secluded or otherwise private spaces where people who aren't muslim can eat during the day in public places (like the Dubai mall). You don't often see the west conforming to Muslims cultural needs as much as Dubai conforms to our cultural needs, while maintaining the integrity of their own culture... And they are more than happy to do so.

If Dubai wants to be a vacation resort for Westerners then cutting down on the religious restrictions are part and parcel of that. As for the West accomadating Islam, would you propose to ban the consumption of pork in the workplace to accomadate islam?

There are already tons of accomidating in Canada for muslims. Take for your example, the workplace. In a ton of Canadian workplaces, muslims have there very own bathrooms that come with feet washers. The list goes on, there are many examples of the west accomidating muslims. Idk about you but I think giving muslims there very own special bathrooms in the workplace is a better accomidation than giving non-muslims a few special places they are allowed to eat while Ramadan is going on.

Better yet, why not just tell immigrants what they need to adjust to in coming to Canada and then let them decide to become part of Canada or to go somewhere that will cater to their desires?

Why should Canada and Canadians have to change to make immigrants happy? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

That's very true, there are some basic accomidation however I doubt and hope it doesn't go past that. Like with Britain, Britain is the prime example of to have limits to your accomidations.

However I don't think the people who immigrate here really give any thought to the cultural difference. Like all those families in Canada who "honor kill" there daughters for being too western. I mean, why move to a western country if you are willing to kill your own daughter from becoming too western.

Oh I meant to say I haven't heard much from anyone else other than the Canadians and just a tad here locally. So I don't think EVERYBODY is pissed, just the Canadians. In regards to Camp mirage if thats what we are still talking abou here.

And media being its usual self every where is over playing things by using strong language like black mail and heavy handed tactics. And here is the rethoric from this side.

http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/gener ... s-1.695559

An intresting point though, the Canadian articles don't mention anything about an expired MOU. Also if you notice The Canadian Press generally give the idea that Canada was being all tough and shit and told them to fuck off while here quites from official Canadian sources convey none of this.

$1:
Catherine Loubier, director of communications for the foreign affairs minister, Lawrence Cannon, said Canada has a strong relationship with the UAE and would like to maintain it. "Canada fully expects to maintain a positive relationship with this important country, and it is in the interests of both countries to do so," she said.

As always all sides have added what pleases their readers most and choosen to leave out what doesn't.

See, you can't beat having a free press DD. Our Defence Minister says otherwise.

"Before leaving Kandahar on Monday, Mr. MacKay gave no indication his flight was being diverted. However, he acknowledged that relations between the two countries were “frosty.”

However, a few minutes before taking off from Kandahar on Monday, Mr. MacKay ended a three-day trip to Afghanistan by saying: “We will abide by the wishes of the Emirates and that is that we will be leaving the base.”

The NP has a pretty good array of diverse opinions and is the lone right-of-centre broadsheet with a national circulation.

Try the Globe and Mail - national paper that is centrist.
