No sprinklers, contains asbestos, bad windows, electrical, heating and air conditioning. Sounds like alot of houses in Canada. The place was good enough for 6 other PM's after he lived there but, it suddenly isn't good enough for him and his mom. I wonder why none of those other PM's thought it important enough to have the Trudeau ancestral home renovated.

The Global News spin is the current condition of 24 Sussex Drive is Harper's fault because he didn't get the required repairs done in 2008.

That's it. And it will be good enough for the 6 PM's after him too.

It's cropped up in the news numerous times over the last decade that the house needs massive amounts of work.
It's not, or shouldn't be, a partisan issue.

The Harpers are known to have thrown some pretty wild parties during Stevie's tenure, underage drinking and who knows what else. I am not surprised it is in need of maintenance. I just hope they held his security deposit. Paramedics called to 24 Sussex, reportedly after Harper son’s 18th bdayhttp://globalnews.ca/news/1286518/param ... een-party/

Delwin Delwin: underage drinking and who knows what else. Ya I'm sure Stevie was there and personally manning the keggers. You've never thrown a party where the police didn't show up ? Gee, I think I feel... sorry for you.

Just make sure the sprinklers work if he falls asleep with a joint in his hand. Or he's just too wasted after visiting a mandatory injection brothel.

It's not, or shouldn't be, a partisan issue. Yes the dilapidated state of 24 sussex has been well documented for over a decade or two. The argument that "it was good enough for his predecessors" doesn't make sense. Sounds like "It's never been repaired therefore there must be nothing wrong with it". The reason it never gets fixed is because the likes of Sun Media are always chomping at the bit to write the headline "PM FLEECES TAXPAYERS WITH LUXURY REMODEL"

Here's an idea: sell 24 Sussex, apply the proceeds to the national debt and let JT and future PMs find their own goddamn accommodations like everyone else on the planet who has to move somewhere for their work.

I think there are a few bridges around that need more immediate attention than 24 Sussex.

Or abandon the PM job - obliterate it altogether...then replace it with a better job!! HAAAAAA!!!! You're priceless.

It's not, or shouldn't be, a partisan issue. Optics are everything which is probably why the other PM's probably didn't force the issue. But, if you win an election and before you've even warmed the seat you're demanding things that cost the taxpayers money it doesn't bode well especially when you have your unelected mother break the news to the people footing the bill. There is no doubt that the residence requires an upgrade but, what bothers me is that the elections signs aren't even struck down and there already appears to be a sense of entitlement from what some consider Canada's Royal Family.

Of course it bothers you but it wouldn't bother you if it was Harper.

If earlier PM's had done what was needed, when it was needed, the cost would be much less. If a citizen put off replacing the roof slates until the rafters rot we would all consider him an idiot. If a politician does the same, in a house we all own, idiots amongst us will call him a financial cost cutter. Why would a PM want to spend money to fix up a public building?...because it's cheaper to do it now, and that saves us all money.
