Rwanda was an aberration, many other Peace Keeping missions have gone very well.

Bullshit.
Did we stop genicide in Bosnia?
If we went into Darfur, could we stop it?
No.

You don't understand what a soldier does.
Send reporters instead if you just want someone to watch.

So says the great arm chair warrior ;)

"You don't understand what a soldier does."

He/she does what they are told to do. IF they are ordered to keep "peace" then that is what they do. If they are ordered to shovel snow then that is what they do.

Do you understand what a soldier does?

Turn that around.
The only folks here who have served , have Veteran or RCMP badge, are also renouncing the peasekeeping illusion. The only ones holding onto it are you people.
Have any of you peasekeeping advocates been in the military?

I was wondering if you ever served or lost someone by war? would be interesting to know..

I'd like to see the actual poll questions. How come I never get a phone call from pollsters?

You should stick to nursing Kenmore. Soldiers carry guns and fight. You've seen the CF ads? "Fight with the Canadian Forces." Enough said.

Those who don't want to fight can nurse, those who want to fight can volunteer for the Forces.

Fight X, just like the Ads say. Much of what the Ad says doesn't involve kicking any persons Ass.

herbie herbie:
Oh and you forgot Croatia, like everyone does. Peacekeepers shoot back if you don't handcuff them.

What happened in Croatia has been dubbed "Peacemaking" on more than one occasion, usually because some politician is trying to make peacekeeping look like something where the troops don't fire bullets and instead are busy petting kittens.

The ads include quotes such as, "Fight fear," "Fight suffering," etc. So much for that when people are being killed and all you are allowed to do is stand their and watch.

And Kenmore, who was your Nephew?

A testimony to the fundamental decency of most Canadians. Good news that Hillier and Harper have so far failed to "change the culture".

It's become pretty obvious that CKA's membership - at least the forum regulars - isn't even remotely representative of Canada's population.

Your kinda wrong there Reason, soldiers are in no way police officers, unless you’re talking about Military Police. There is a reason infantry soldiers do not look after POWs anymore, they are handed off to MPs as soon as possible. If martial law is called, do not expect to be treated the same as if the RCMP were dealing with you.

The CF is not a tool of the UN, sure we are nice and when we can we will help them. Many soldiers, as well as most of the world have lost faith in the military aspect of the UN.

Oh very true, I thought you meant that Canadian soldiers should be used as world police, or in the case of UN peacekeeping, security guards.

Lol we cant be isolationist though, it doesnt work well because eventually some of the problems come to your doorstep. If the states had helped rebuild Afghanistan, after supplying them weapons against the Russian, would 9/11 happened? No one can really know for sure, but I think it might have.
