The number of wildfires rose to 132 yesterday, but have fallen to 112 with the little rain we got. ~38 are out of control.
Some people have had to be evacuated 3 times, as their homes were under wildfire alert, then the place they evacuated to, then the place they went after that. Drayton Valley residents went to Wildwood/Edmonton, then Wildwood was evacuated, so they went to Edson and Whitecourt. Then Edson was evacuated. Most of highway 16 from Edmonton to Jasper has had closures due to fire and smoke.
Edson residents are now allowed to return, but Jasper was without power yesterday because of that evacuation. Wildfires in May are sort of normal, from when the snow melts to when the forests and plains green up again. But every 5 years or so, they have been getting worse. Slave Lake in 2011, Fort McMurray in 2016, Chukckegg in 2019.
