If any of them have worked in a job of any kind they would know that's how the corporate world works. In this case it wasn't done maliciously but done by the book. The writing was on the wall before hand......as well as in the papers.

It's still cold though. 30 years of service, and they still get the walk of shame.

We had something similar, our HR department is mostly out of India now. One lady who had 29 years and was close to retirement was let go suddenly when the transition happened. It sucks.

But as you say, it's modern business.

Yup.

But better than Target, making the people continue to work for the severance package.

I'll bet we hear a few interesting stories of theft and sabotage in a couple of months.

The walk of shame is also accompanied by signing off on a severance package before leaving. The long termers are going to be receiving big payouts by Tim's when they leave so they're going to land on their feet much better than the folks at Target are, who got 16 guaranteed weeks of more work/pay but no significant severance at all, thanks to the lifespan of the stores being so short.

Of course 30 year staff would land better than people with ~2 years of work at Target.

2 years doesn't entitle you to dick-all.

It's not a walk of shame if you're one of a group like this was. Also depends on the exit package and other supplements that go with it.

That's happening in my immediate neighbourhood. I'm going to ask around.

This is the beginning of the "Americanization" of Tim's. They'll bring in all of their big shots from the States and pull another "Target" more than likely.

Yeah if your company gets bought out by a global investment firm, time to brush up your resume.

I imagine they'll cut to the bone and then outsource what's left to India. Better get used to it.

Tell your kids to be doctors, lawyers, tradespeople--something difficult to outsource. My son wants to be a engineer (like his dad), but I don't know if that job will be very profitable. There's hundreds of thousanbds of perfectly capable keeners in China and India right now.

I worked for a Canadian company, bought out by a U.S. firm much like this situation , except on a smaller scale. They "took over". They were the experts, the pros ... except that they weren't. Their culture told them that they were but literally all of the experience and technical expertise came from Canada ... as did all of the product development. Anyway, the Hotshots in Tampa ran the company into the ground, the Canadian operation soldiered on for a time, long after the hotshots were dead and buried.

Just sayin'.

Canadians are often very, very good at this sort of thing. It's just that our pockets aren't as deep, the market isn't as big and for no other reason.

Here we go, again.

Ditto that if your company hires a CEO with the Business Round Table in his resume.

What's really sad is that most of the employees of Target were once employees of Zeller's and this is the second time in 3 years that they've been fucked over by the ineptitude of an American Corporation.

First Hudson's Bay and now Target. It really makes me long for the days when we had Eaton's and the Bay was still Canadian.

I've read about outsourcing a lot of legal work to India too. Obviously court appearances can't be outsourced, but a lot of the paperwork can.

Then there's technology, where a lot of legal or medical work can start being done by puters. Tell your son to go into gerontology.

That's what they should have told the CEO. Share some of his wealth with the workers.
