Now here is what I don't get.
If you are charged, someone had to go to the police, right?
If she said "no" and he did "no" when she said so, he apologized, she accepted, and this is all that has happened, why would you press charges?

I think its damn strange for someone to get absolute discharge from admitting to a sexual assualt.

Might have been angry and has had time to cool of since...

I think this is a weird story period... He admitted to something he doesnt remember. It is her word...

And no, I am in no way defending him if he actually did what he did, although I think this is less criminal than what that cougar is doing.

Put him in jail, his celebrity status and the fact that he self dosed his pills is no excuse for this type of behaviour or for him getting off with no criminal record. Had this been just a regular Joe he would be in jail awaiting trial. If an apology was all she wanted then it could have been done outside the legal system without the waste of time and $.

You mean the cougar? That 42 year old woman who took off with that 16 year old homeboy, that everybody seems to think of as "since it is consentual, he is 16 so it is legal, thus it is ok".

This one.

"Who says they had sex?"
Well, who says this happened at all?

He did offer an apology and it was accepted. The girl and family reportedly didn't want it to go any further than that. But the problem is it was already in the hands of the crown who decided to move forward. That still doesn't explain why the police found out about this in the first place though.

The only difference I can see is that Tillman was in a position of authority over the 16 year old. Being in a position of authority is what changes the situation, legally speaking anyway. But you are correct, if Tillman doesn't remeber than there would be no proof other than the 16 year old's word.

Also reading the leader post, the girl and the family do not want him to lose his job with the Riders and don't think a non-contact order is needed. This may explain the absolute discharge. This is just a bizarre situation all around.

Sexual Assault can be any manner of things, from a slap on the ass to a violent rape. Sexual Assault, by definition, is any unconcented conduct of a sexual nature. Apparently what Tillman did was to to come up from behind the girl, while she was bent over feeding his child, and grab her by the belt-loops on her jeans and give her a pull toward him. That's it. You want to put a guy in prison for that?

Yes, it was wrong. Yes, it was inappropriate. Yes, it was sexual assualt, by the definition of the offense under the Criminal Code. It's also pretty minor when you consider all the varieties of sexual assaults. An absolute discharge is the appropriate outcome in this case.

Just the opposite. Had he not been a sports celebrity, this never would have seen the inside of a courtroom.
