BeaverFever BeaverFever:
Also, casting on the basis of apeparance, including race - which is usually in the favour of whites - is common in show business.

Of course. They needed to cast a fat guy who couldn't make it across the wire for Prison Break . Biopics need to cast for resemblance. But for a talking head job? Nah, that shouldn't happen in 2016. And kudos to producers, such of those in charge of "Elementary" or the HR person who hired the black Santa at Square One for thinking outside the stereotype in terms of casting.

Or how about a biopic of Martin Luther King starring Christian Bale? In his best gravelly voice "I'm Black Man."

It was for a children's show. And it's within a producer's rights to intentionally hire a diverse cast.

It's funny watching the usual suspects that are now all for racial "profiling" for a job, just as long as it's "whitey" being subjected to it.

Hating white people is quite fashionable these days.

It has nothing to do with Hate. It is about reflecting Society.

How about we ignore race, gender and sexual orientation and just hire the best PERSON for the job.

Since when does any job HAVE to reflect society?

Just thought to add, the main reason I like working in my field is that not one company gives a shit about anything other than are you willing to work hard and put in the long hours with a minimum of pissing and moaning.

I say a minimum because everyone Ive worked with out here pisses and moans about the job.

The different jobs I've worked in have had situational discrimination but no one's ever had to make an issue of race.

In the Corps there was discrimination in favor of men who could do the job. Everyone else was washed out.

In the IT field it's the same thing. You have to be able to do the job and if you can't... see you later!

The funny result in the IT field is that it's mostly populated by Asian and Caucasian men on the hardware, network, and software side.

While you see women and black men in Program Management that's about the only place they prosper because PM is not really as immediately quantifiable as the other IT disciplines.

IT is just not a discipline where you can try to impose racial quotas and still expect things to work.

The rub is that if you're a black woman who can do all of the above at an expert level then the world is your freaking oyster because EVERYONE wants to hire you.

Us white guys are nothing special in IT.

Unless, of course, it's Monday at 8am and your network is down.

It's a trade off in the field. The good part is that you're not walking on eggshells the way you have to in office work. The bad part is that all the psychopaths and bullies that know they're unsuitable for office work go out to the field. And, for some reason, always seem to become the worst of the foremen and site supers. Can't win in either location if you're normal. :|

Funny thing about society, and societal change...

When policy is reactive to societal change, it tends to go peacefully.

When policy is proactive in societal change, it tends to go sideways.

Just food for thought.

It might be food for thought, if I understood what you were trying to say.

Lol, what I am trying to say is that policy can create hate where hate did not exist before.

And, policy can alleviate hate when hate exists before the policy.

Unfortunately, I think this specific instance is proactive policy, more so than reactive. And, the only reason I think that is proactive is because it is for a children's show. The demographic that is the least likely to care what the host physically looks like.

This is where social movements tend to fall into the most trouble. When they cross from reactive to proactive (or vice versa). They tend to go from alleviating to creating and that can be very problematic in regards to ensuring the preferred outcomes.

So they are promoting Hate?
