The now former mayor of Colorado City, Texas said he had already turned in his resignation when he wrote a controversial Facebook post on Tuesday.

Tim Boyd said it was not the local government's responsibility to help those suffering in the cold without power. "Only the strong will survive and the weak will parish," the typo-ridden post said.

Boyd also wrote that he was "sick and tired" of people looking for handouts and that the current situation is "sadly a product of a socialist government."

That is slightly shocking for a Senator, but somehow typical of Cruz.

A good write up of the problems:

Deep in the heart of Texas’ collapsing power grid

Pathetic. And the worse thing is he won’t have to worry about losing his seat. Texans will vote for him no matter what he does.

Apparently Cancun Cruz demanded a police escort from the airport and got one. I'm sure this leadership will be celebrated like that of Gavin Newsom in California telling others to stay in while he eats at lavish restaurants.

Thanos Thanos:
I'm not going to dump on them too hard because this is a very shitty thing for the average Texan to have to experience.

This. The least important thing right now is whose fault this is. The worst thing you can do is try to play the blame game and misleading people. My mistake--the worst thing you can do, as a state leader, is to grab your family and fuck off to Cancun while your constituents are starving and freezing.

I think the point is that if Ted is safe and warm and hanging with the fam poolside, he's in a much better position to manage things for the schmoes. Trickle-down disaster management.

This is probably the worst case of 'failing to read the room' since Nora Loreto and her comments after the Humboldt tragedy.

So Hizzhoner thinks he and the public utilities don't owe anything to the people who pay their damn salaries? Or, in neoliberal speak, their customers?

How the fuck are you supposed to "do without" water and think outside the box, when your salary's been cut to increase payouts to shareholders, you're $30K in the hole for a medical bill or have multiple dependents like grandparents and/or babies that have a hard time traveling?

Seriously, how does this guy even dress himself in the morning?

It's just a symptom of where Republicans have ended up. They don't give a shit who votes for them, because voting doesn't matter. They care who pays for their re-election. So long as power companies don't have to pay for upgrades identified years ago, and so long as they aren't subject to federal standards in maintaining the power grid - then their actual masters are happy.

Why on earth would right-wing people with connections to the fossil fuel industry lie about ‘frozen wind turbines’ in Texas?
