My only problem wiht all the trendies getting tats is they have no style, the guys with the barb wire on their arms with no clue that it's a POW statement form the Vietnam war or those that go and get the chinese characters cause their friends did and they just looked good. If your going to bother with a Tat, make it mean something, all of mine have special meaning and are custome designed by ME rather than just having mass printed picks off of the parlor wall and doing it because it's cool.

$1: "It's this idea of 'Hello, I'm special,' and a culture that wants to permanently customize ourselves," he says. Gah tattoos just annoy me. Same with excessive piercings. It's just defacing your body, in my opinion. For the most part, they don't actually MEAN anything to these people who are putting it on "Ooohh look I have a little sun on my shoulderblade, how CUUUUTE" *Bashes my head in* and they're basically ugly. They're not special anymore. Everybody has tattoos. It's more rare if you DONT have a tattoo, in my opinion.

I have 3, my first one was a trial, I got a spider on my forearm cause I was 18 and I could, I plan on covering it. My second is a lion's head with my initials above and my Son's initials below as we are both Leo's My third is the Leo symbol in a sunburst with my Daughter's name as we are both Leo's I have one designed to get with my wife, it's a symbol I made out of both of our initials, I have to wait until she's done breastfeeding before the shop I use will tattoo it. I plan 3-5 more all with a meaning relative to me or my Family, I don't believe Tat's should be anything but.

I can remember when the only people who had tattoo's we're sailors and convicts, so it's nice to finally be part of the mainstream and get that social acceptance I've so yearned for, even after 40 years of being shunned because of my tattoo's. I guess Pinkie Chan's will be doing a booming business, I just hope he got over that hepatitis scare.

I got my tattoo when I was 20, 20 years ago. When I got it, very few people had tattoos. It wasn't a regular thing; maybe 1 person in 500 had one. Now everyone's got one. Mine's a Scottish flag, btw, on my back at my shoulder blade.
Commanderkai's right, though, they're not special anymore. I likely wouldn't get one if I was 20 today. Not that I don't like mine, but it's not a "rebel-rocker" thing anymore. I worry about the kids getting them these days...15, 16 year old boys. I wonder what those tats will look like when their bodies have filled out.

I know a guy who has over 100 piercings (many he did himself as he works in a tattoo/piercing place) and has a bunch of tattoos, but they all mean something to him. He's got big spacers in his ears and shit, but he's such a chill dude.

I agree, if you get a tattoo make it mean something, make it something you want. Make it something that entertains you even. My favourite dj has a big green space invader on his neck, scissors with a dotted line down his left forearm, and "fail" on his right inner wrist. I'll get some eventually, just not sure what yet.

I have one, on my left shoulder blade. It has meaning to me, it represents a part of my life, a period of massive change. Ever since I have been wanting more, but I have not been able to find the right ones, or the right place to put them on. I refuse to tattoo my breasts, a tramp stamp is soooo old and I want to be able to cover it or not, to my liking.
There has not been an event in my life that I wanted to have tattooed on my body since the one I have. Not even the births of my kids.
