The state should give him a reward for saving the tax payers the cost of the trial and having to house his sorry ass in jail again. The dead dude had 29 counts against him and was out of jail only three days from his last stint in the slammer for auto theft.
I'm waiting for the dead guy's family to sue for the attack being a "hate crime"

"When he said that, the suspect lunged at him, kind of forced the kid against the wall, and he struck him with the sword," Guglielmi said.
Lunge at the guy with the sword!! I say write "Suicide" on the moron's death certificate and move on.

The dead guy should not complain. After all, what someone does to another persons body, is freedom of expression anyway

I wonder if he made a "hiYAH!" or "waaaaaah" (higher pitched and a bit winey) sound when he cut the guy in half?

So almost everyone agrees that he was in his right to defend himself with a sword but how many would change their opinions if he defended himself with a legal shotgun, rifle or pistol?

I don't agree... With either. Because I think a burglar does not deserve the death penalty.

He has the 'right' to defend himself if he can prove that he was threatened with grievous bodily harm or death.

Brenda. You dodge. Should the defender face manslaughter charges because he caused death by accident?
Please remember that he swung the sword when the burgler rushed him, chopping off a hand in the process. The death was an accident. If he felt his life was in danger and had to defend himself, I think he would be right reguardless of what he used... short of a tank.
