Oh and I’m afraid I also think that some of the costumes and antics at Pride don’t really promote understanding, I believe they just reinforce stereo-types and provide fodder for the bigots.

no more so than Carnivale or Mardi Gras say that all heteros are drunks and sluts.

Is that a carnival just for hetero's tho? I was under the impression that that was not sexually oriented.

What I mean is that Gay parades are for gays. The rest of the carnivals are for each and everyone, regardless of your sexual orientation.
There's no such thing as a "hetero-parade". That would not be PC...

Apparently 2010's Toronto Santa Claus parade wants government funding to the tune of 4 million, although for now they are lobbying at the provincial coffers.

Given the state of Ontario's finances, the answer had better be "NO".

That is because it is the main stream dominant culture. There are also ethnic oriented parades. When you are the dominant culture every day is a celebration of that culture. Besides, themed parades have evolved and pretty much include everybody now.

You both are right about the funding, trouble is it is an unpopular decision, especially in the wake of 50 billion dollars being spent on a tonne of stuff just like this.

Refuse funding and risk the wrath of the voters. That is true about everything so if Harper figures he wasn't going to get the votes with the funding he won't bother funding it at all.

OTOH, if it even costs him a little bit of support in very close ridings it could easily mean the loss of 4-5 seats. Support is that tight in a lot of ridings that support this stuff as he found out in QC.

Never saw Will getting falling down drunk. The lager lout scene is actually very avoided by the gay scene, at least it was in Brighton.

Yea, but those events aren't about changing attitudes towards drunks and sluts and the events are not a promotion of drunks and sluts. Just lots turn up to them. (Mm, I must go to Rio!)

Pride is about promoting acceptance.

Pride organizers have tried to market this as a 'family' event. It's not that at all. There is no way I'd be taking my kids to it while semi-naked people are trying their best to shock the masses.

Now we also have far-left agitators such as the QAIA hijacking Pride for their own agenda(s).

The Caribana festival in Toronto also had federal funding denied after receiving it last year, but you don't see the black community having a massive hissy fit because of it.
